  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

I have a 2014 Equus with 76K miles and it's recently been starting to downshift very harshly when coming to a stop. It's downshifting so hard that I have to balance my braking with the downshifts to get the car to stop somewhat smoothly. It's mainly gears 1-3. Each downshift slows the vehicle by about 5-10mph. The transmission isn't slipping and upshifting is decently smooth.

I've taken it to the Hyundai dealership near me and they said that's completely normal for my car but I find that extremely hard to believe considering this has only happened recently. I took it to 3 more mechanics who said the same thing. Downshifting this hard cannot be normal, I literally cannot brake normally anymore.

I'm thinking about taking it to a Genesis dealership in case they have more knowledge about the drivetrain since it's very similar to the G90. Has anyone else experienced this issue and have you successfully gotten a diagnosis at a Hyundai dealership or anywhere else? My warranty will not replace the transmission unless the mechanic thinks there is something wrong with it.

Edit: I've done the transmission relearn multiple times with no difference.

@Porcupineomg I would have the trans fluid drain/filled, including replacing the pan + filter, even if you aren't experiencing any slipping gears.

I had a noticeable downshift from 7 to 6. Changed the fluid and filter at 100k. Problem seems to have gone away
