  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2014 R-Spec 5.0 spark plug change

How were you able to reach into the tight area where cylinder #8 is and get the plugs out? The driver side high pressure fuel pump makes it physically impossible to get the 18mm socket on the bolt.

I honestly do not remember having that much of an issue. Can you use a swivel or crows foot to get to it?

I just did my 2014 Hyundai Genesis R-SPEC spark plugs this last weekend with the OEM NGK's. Pretty straightforward, but I recommend using a 1/4" set for the 10mm coil bolt on the driver side back plug with a swivel, it was more difficult to get on without removing anything else. The remainder were relatively easy with some swivels and a locking extension for the plug socket. My plugs were late to be changed at 139k, but overall not in bad shape.

I used a magnetic 10mm bit to pull the 10mm coil bolts once they were fully loose, which helped not drop the bolts into the abyss.

I could not find a specific torque guideline from Hyundai, so I used the NGK range and set them at 11-11.5 lb ft

If I remember I'll post pics of the old ones, worn but definitely functional.
