  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone have any info on our ECU? What brand is it?

Anyone willing to unbolt and flip it over. Need to see the sticker on the other side. Should be a Bosch, Siemens, Continental ECU.

I will explain later. May have a tuning option.

Curious... Why don't you check yours?

Because I don't have my car at the moment. I am out of state on business.

I am intrigued!

It is been a year since.... If my memory serves both 2009 4.6 & the R-spec ECUs are based on a Delphi setup, so the 2014 R-spec should be the same.

I would wager that you may be waisting your time, how do I know this? Because, 9 months on, SFR are still working on the 5.0/R-Spec problem, although they made some head way on and cracked the 4.6, but still have not tuned anyone's car as of yet! (there are two members currently invested in this endeavor)

Well wouldn't it make sense to have more people trying and more speedshops involved?

I just need to get a picture of the under side of the ecu to pass along. The shop i am working with tunes high end cars like Bentley's, AMG Mercedes etc.

There's no guarantees but, I'm only out my time for trying and if we succeed we all benefit.

I am also looking into other modifications as well but, one thing at a time.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
BTR has made the most progress and offers tunes for the 3.8 with the 4.6 almost complete. User Tailwalker got the ball rolling with them on the 4.6 and believe they currently have his ECU. IIRC no one has cracked the 5.0 ECU, not even in Korea. There is a thread on here somewhere talking about this.

I'm in there as well, though conflicting 5.0 info from members in on the project and BTR themselves.

I'll enjoy it in stock form, regardless. ;)

This was mostly to keep people from associating SFR with any real tuning.

Right now I am trying to source a spare ECU to just send out. I just need to get the part number to match up. Found someone who has a totalled out 12 Rspec sedan.

Might get the headers to and send them to a fab shop I know here in FL.

Progress takes time but, if the interest is strong enough someone will find a way to get it done.

I only have exposure to SFR and BTRcc on the Gen Coupe side (I had a 2011 2.0T) but my experience with SFR has been much better than BTRcc. I bought a tune from BTR for my Tomei M7960 turbo (its a kit they sell) and I ended up getting a refund because after shipping me 3 different tunes (and the associated down time waiting for shipping) they couldn't get it to run correctly. My SFR tune on the other hand was generally fine.

Approach. With. Caution.
...unless you meant BTRcc. ;)

Ops auto correct strikes again! BTRcc it is..
Hopefully they will not confiscate that 5.0 ECU for that outrages error! :)

Yes I would love to have more people to look at the problem, but be aware that the likely hood of decrypting parts of the ECU without the proper keys are very slim!

They still have my ECU (supposedly still) in Korea for almost 10 months, otherwise I would have l would have gladly given it to you, because at this point, I have all but given up on that investment...
I still Have a little faith as Tailwalker is still running the show, but I have not heard any updates recently...

At any rate, be aware that the model number is different between each year 2012-14, you can find that number on sticker stuck on the chassis next to ECU.
Also be aware that sourcing an ECU took fare bit of effort...

Well, i appreciate the info. I understand that we have limited support but, honestly we do nothing collectively as a community. The drop off of information on this site is pathetic. Hand's down there should be a knowledge base of factual information to provide to people and there isn't.

I am deeply disappointed that it is impossible to find any bit of knowledge on this site because there is no structure for it. We can sit here and blame the lack of aftermarket support but, hell how are we honestly supposed to achieve anything when it is improbable to sort through the listless content to even find something as trivial as the OEM offset of our factory wheels.

I have been around on and off this site for about 7 years and suffered from the same issue, I have come to accept that google is truly my friend and is the best way to look for something on this site, or example:

oem wheel offset r-spec site:genesisowners.com

This google search, would yield the answer of 35mm on the first hit. (granted not backed up by any hard data/link, other than few other threads that confirms the initial hit).

Most members/owners are passionate, but I am sure like myself have (very) limited time to spare than the average committed hot rod tuner, not to mention most loath the idea of messing around with that wonderful 10/100k warranty and I am sure there are countless other reasons for why things the way they are...

Just my two cents

I suspect the true reason for little aftermarket support is because it's of little demand. I am a car buff and enjoy the site and reading on the cars. Really any cars. But for aftermarket I don't truly see the point. Perhaps wheels and other small cosmetics. But to me the Genesis sedan just isn't an enthusiasts car. I'm sure there are those that are looking to mod one. But they are far and few between. The volumes just aren't there for the aftermarket to really get behind it.

I enjoy the 5.0 R-Spec as my daily driver and mobile office. It's fast, has a good warranty, reliable and comfortable. Along with a great price for content. But I have other cars to which I spend money to mod. Not the Genesis. It's just not that kind of car to me. And to most others.

I see people putting straight pipes and such on the Sedan. It makes no sense at all to me for this car. But it's America and that's what's great. We can all do what we like. But forget about getting a bunch of enthusiasts together around this car and have a swell of aftermarket support. It's just not realistic.

Certain cars (Mustang, Camaro, etc) the manufacturers encourage aftermarket support and send out the codes for ecu tuning etc willingly. It helps their new sales by driving those channels of aftermarket support. But the Genesis doesn't fall into this category and Hyundai isn't trying to capture those customers. Given they are selling with a long warranty, they really don't want anyone messing with it. And that's the point. They will not make it easy.

Not knowing how to operate the resource does not a bad resource make. If you walk into a library, and don't use any catalog system, be aware that walking around just trying to find the book will be difficult.

I have yet to ask something in a new thread as my searches have led me to the proper info each time.

Relax, breathe, and Google the hell out of things.

Having a great deal of information in one location does not make a proper database. It is the way that information is cataloged and structured that truly defines the usefulness of it's availability.

Granted that not everything can be deciphered into categories, this site drastically needs more sticky's or a FAQ section.

A database is only as good as the index and relationships; Google can do both. ;)

Ok but, let me ask you a question. Should we have to use a search engine to find common facts like wheel offset?

This information should be easily accessible and readily available. Go look at j-body.org and see their structure, it is a lot more functional and readily available and that platform is so dead they haven't made a J-body in 10 years.

How this thread got so off topic is probably my fault and I will take the blame for that.

To get back on track, hopefully I can source an ecu and send it off to this other tuning company that my BMW owning best friend advised me about.

Not sure what else I'd use, but...maybe? LOL
I'd rather search and hit the information head-on than browse 59 sticky threads with digression (like this). ;)
