  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking forward to drain and refill transmission fluid. I’ve found write up and videos on how to do this and it looks straight forward. However, I have not found consensus as to what fluid to use. Hyundai specifies to use SP-IV-RR (part# 00232-19052, ~$19/qt) and it appears some people switched to Valvoline MaxLife (~$25/gal) or Amsoil (~$21/qt). Since Valvoline is significantly cheaper, has anyone tried it and had any issues or concerns with it?

I have not used Valvoline MaxLife in my 2015 Genesis transmission, but have used it in my 2015 Lexus RX350( with 180k miles)and 2007 Toyota Highlander(with 240k miles) automatic transmissions and the fluid works well. Very smooth shifts in both.

I did not know that Valvoline MaxLife was a compatible fluid for my Genesis when I bought Ravenol SP-IV RR fluid. If so, I would have used the MaxLife in my Genesis since I have plenty of it around the house. But, I have not so I can not say how MaxLife would perform in the Genesis. I would "assume" just as well as in the Toyota transmissions since it is good transmission fluid used in many make and models.

Any answer to this ?

Completed 3 drain and refill procedures with Valvoline Maxlife atf on my 2018 Genesis G80 3.8. Almost 20k miles later - no issues. Smooth quick shifts.
