  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey All,

I figured i'd do a little review and give you some of my thoughts of what it's been like owning a 2015 RWD 3.8 Ultimate for the last 3 years, 32k miles.

So far, i've had no real issues or major concern with the car, just the regular maintenance of getting oil changes done, filter replacements and tire rotations.

But now a couple of things are starting to show.
  1. The front headlights are starting to peal and i've dropped of the car today to get those replaced under warranty. Note, i park the car 70% of the time inside a garage and not letting it sit outside in the sun, which would speed up the process of pealing.
  2. Front end is sounding like as if the rotors are starting to warp... it has the sound of warped rotors, but not the feel in the steering wheel. Waiting to hear from them today what they find and cause of it.
Other than that, the car has really been a solid car. It's been more than reliable even on doing a 12 hour road trip that was really pleasant to drive. Not having any mechanical issue or cosmetically issues with the car inside and out. The paint still looks as sharp as it did when i first purchased it ( i am anal when it comes to cleaning and maintaining the car paint) as well as my Ivory interior looks phenomenal.

I'd defiantly consider getting another Genesis when the time comes.

What is peeling? The light covers are molded plastic and I can't think of what would be layered.

Never heard warped rotors but have felt them. The pads to have a "tell tale" that starts making some noise as they get close to replacement time. Given the miles, depending on where you drive you can be getting close to wear out. Do let us know what they find.

I hope they still have the headlights when i pick it up today.

But it's pealing from the top slightly, if they still have them, i'll take a picture and put it in here later today.

it might be the breaks, but last time i had a service, 6 months ago, they had still a decent amount of life left on them. Plus, they don't make any noise what so ever. =/

Here is a picture of the headlights, you can see it along the top edge.

My headlights are peeling the same way. The UV protective film is what peeling. So far it only noticable if you get close like when I wash the car, but if the peeling becomes worst I will polish off the peeling protective layer and apply some UV sealant to the headlights.

I bought my 16 used with 22k and I noticed the peeling along the top edges as well.

wanted to update quick,

So tonight was the first night i used the headlights after i got them installed... and low and behold... the color is different from the original headlights that were on the car compared to the new ones. Reason i know is because the left headlight is still the original, while the right is the one that got replaced... The new one is not as blue in color as the original and also the original headlight now has the blinker not working in the front and is causing it to hyper blink... back to dealership tomorrow i go!!

Oh and the worse part about it all... when they took out the headlight, they slightly chipped the fender, defiantly pissed about that and will address this with them tomorrow.

I traded my 2015 Empire Gray Genesis Ultimate AWD in two weeks ago for a 2019 G70. Before that I had a 2011 Blue Genesis and I can say they were both really good cars. The 2015 was I thought an exceptional car. Never had any problems just maintenance. Extremely comfortable, quiet and handled well for a big car. Let’s hope the new can live up to its predecessor. I do miss things like rear sun shade, powered trunk, rear seat sun shades, compass on rear view mirror.

The OEM headlights uses a white/yellowish 4.3k HID bulb that turns more white/bluish color as the bulb ages which reduces light output. My Genesis bulbs are older and have more of a white/bluish color, however I installed some newer 4.3k bulbs in my other car and the color is more of a white/yellowish color.

Well, i took it there today and they are ordering me a new left headlight now as well... i guess i scored, getting 2 new headlights after 3 years of ownership!

Let's hope they will look identical.

question,

When a blinker is out, does the dealership not have to fix it right away or give you a loaner car until fixed? I was just pulled over today and let me go with a warning because my blinker was out and i told them that i was waiting on my dealer to call me when my new headlights arrive...

I don't think there is any reason they have to give you a loaner. If the dealer has the part he would usually fix it right away. If the left blinker is out, just make three rights.

I’m looking to do same thing on my 2016! 3 year lease coming due

We old guys remember arm signals. Oddly enough, I saw a guy using arm signals this week. First time in decades.

Well, the thing is they did not have the part, and i'm still waiting for it... but i'll be patient, it just caught me off guard, because of the cop that pulled me over for that reason.

Great! It would be really hard to match the color on a headlights that is brand new vs 3 years old that has many miles on it and the inside reflective coating of the projector is used (burned and dusty - which will have huge impact on the output color temperature). 2 equally new headlights and bulbs(OEM or good brand such as OSRAM, PHILIPS or MORIMOTO) should be identical. Know that from my own experience.

question: what morimoto bulb can we use in our genesis(es)? would we have to change out the ballast??

If anyone has any thoughts, please give your $.02 on the matter. thanks

You can go with D1S Morimoto XB 5500k. You don't have to change the ballast, only the bulb. Below is the link to the Morimoto bulb:

D1S Morimoto XB

If you decide to purchase, make sure you select 5500k color temperature (which should be identical to your stuck bulb. If you go with 4500k your light will be yellowish, and if you go with 6500k it will be slightly blueish.

If you really want something good, you should go with Osram Xenarc CBI:

Osram CBI

Don't try to but these from EBay as they will most likely be counterfeit (they offer them for lot cheaper but for a reason ;-) )

Thank you so very much!!! The osram's it is! 3400 lumens guaranteed is waaay brighter than stock. I need them due to me being in my 40's and not having fog lights on my '15 Ultimate AWD.
