  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The steering (in temps above 40 F) will make a Whining Sound.

When I turn left / right behind the dash there is a thunk thunk clunk sound. The day that started I heard a POP and it felt it into the steering wheel.

I know with these two issues that if I cannot duplicate on demand I will not get any help from the dealer.

Has anyone had these issues?

Hmm.....sounds like we might have the same problem. I'll try to upload the video clip as soon as I can.

It's more like chirping, clicking sound.

Not what I am hearing. It typically happens when I turn or hit bumps. It sounds like an old creaky door.

dareckibmw, when I listened to your video again, it is close to the sound I am hearing, I cannot recreate it with the lane assist like you shown, but turning left / right does make a very similar sound. What is the cause of the sound you are hearing? Did you find out?

No I did not. It sometimes comes out of nowhere and it's really hard to recreate it. When I had my car at dealer for 2 weeks (due to rack and pinion failure) I showed them the video clip, they acknowledge the problem, but since they couldn't recreate it while driving my car, they couldn't fix it.

I had a squeek in the steering wheel when I turned left on hot days. Asked them to take it apart and throw some lube on it while I was there for an oil change. Instead, they told me that they'll call me when the new steering wheel arrives. I love the service I get from my dealer and it helps that the service manager is a personal friend.

That is what I am expecting from the dealer. The sound in my car happens when I hit bumps. But I have hit a similar issue with the dealer that my power steering makes a lot of noise when I turn, but of course they can't recreate it. I have to get them in the car and drive with them, but I still have my doubts they will fix it.
