  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone,

I am considering a CPO 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 Ultimate. I wanted to see if this is a reliable model. I've been reading about oil consumption for the previous year model.
Any 100k+ mile cars? I considered the Kia Stinger GT2 but it leases so poorly (almost $18k for 3-year lease). The CPO 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 has a little over 40k miles and listed for $23,995. Currently driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T Ultimate. I thought about extending the bumper-to-bumper warranty to 100k miles if there are any major issues. Thank you in advance for your input!

Have a 2015 5.0 Tech ( not ultimate ). Still love this car after several years of ownership. Nowhere near 100K mileage. Some complain about noisy sunroof. But that goes across the the whole lineup, not just the 5.0 ultimate. Mine has never made any noise. The only WTH moment was when my wife & her sisters were on a road trip. The trunk would not open. Then after an hour or so of trying whatever, they say it just opened. It's possible one of them hit the valet button in the glove box. I wasn't there, and the issue has never repeated.

You're probably already aware with the ultimate, you cannot get Apple Car Play or Android Auto. And it will have the adaptive rear suspension ( think that's what it's called ). Supposed to be expensive to repair.

Thanks for the reply! Good to hear that you are enjoying your car after several years.
Regarding the sunroof, my current car has a squeaky panoramic sunroof so I've grown used to it.
For Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, I don't use it at all in my current car so I won't miss it.
I used to drive a 2012 Hyundai Equus Ultimate, which has airbag suspension, and it failed around 30k miles. It was replaced under warranty but that's easily 2-3k in parts and labor. Browsing this forum, looks like people paid around 2-2.5k for the Platinum Wrap so it'll be worth it if the suspension needs to be replaced once. I drive around 12k miles a year so that's about 5 years of peace of mind.

I also have a 2015 5.0 ultimate. I've had it for 11 months now and love the car. It seems like the price of the car you're looking at is right in line for a CPO.

I have one, and it is well known for head units to go t!ts-up at a cost of $2500. Sunroof creaking - yes, but it doesn’t bother me. Flutter from 28-38 mph - yes, but it can be hard to solve. I ignore it.
You definitely want the V8.
Mine has recently had a bit of clatter when cold. My hydraulic lifters might need to be replaced but that should be covered by warranty.

My 2015 Ultimate 5.0 @ 77k miles seems to escaped many of the above complaints. I have had some oddball electrical glitches but they were remedied by removing & reinserting fuses (A/C) or simply restarting (rebooting?) the car.... My head unit was replaced by the previous owner @ 30k.

While searching, I drove both the 3.8 & 5.0... The 5.0 has much more reserve power, the 3.8 has to be wound out. The 5.0 mpg isn't bad at all - 24.5 on a 2000 mi trip @ 75-80 mph. Can get some horrible mpg in stop & go (mostly stop) traffic though - 15 is the worst I've seen. 16.5 is about normal.
