  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis V8 5L. My car was not starting. I would try turning it on I will hear one click and it will not start but all the lights will come on and the seat and steering wheel goes into the position it was programmed to. So I changed the battery, with the battery being changed I found when I woke up in the morning (in the cold, cause this is currently happening in winter season) to go and start my car it will not start. I would have to try multiple times with the button and resetting the car in terms of opening and closing the door locking and unlocking the door then pressing the start button multiple times to try to get this car started. The car eventually starts after 3 to 5 minutes of fidgeting with it trying to get it started.

But during the day after my car gets started up and running, I don't have that problem for the whole day even if I turn off my car and turn it back on it will start back up right away. The problem occurs only when my car been sitting in the cold for hours like for example overnight.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can rectify this problem?

Try moving the gear selector all the way to low, then back to park before hitting the Start button. It might be the switch that won't allow the car to be started until in neutral beginning to fail. Either that or the starter motor is on its way out.

Okay thank you. I'll try that in the morning.

I tried this and it did not work.

Put a multi-meter on the boost contacts under the hood and check the voltage. Should be over 12.5vts. Keep checking as you have someone else try and start it to see if there is a voltage drop. If so, it could be a bad connection with either the positive or negative battery post. The connectors can appear to be tight using the 10mm nut, but the actual connector could be bent/worn and not providing a solid connection to the battery.

Is it best that I connect to the positive and negative contacts under the hood or the actual battery in the trunk while checking this?

Also do you know a good reliable multimeter that I can purchase?

The suggested test only have value if you do it at the underhood jump points. He is asking you to check to see if power is correctly making it that far, under load. It is assumed that it is good back at the battery.

Copy that thank you. And would you perhaps know a good multi-meter for me to purchase?

Also is it possible since I installed the battery myself that I could have tightened the bolts on too tightly. To why it could be giving me an issue now?

The only way that "too tight" would be a problem is if the clamp or bolt snapped in two.
There are hundreds of good sub $50 meters to choose from. I know that this one is okay:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RZZ3CKZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This should be good too:

I'm sure that your local auto stores or even Walmart have a good enough one as well.

Okay. Thank you. I will test this out and see the results
