  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi guys, I have a 2015 Genesis Ultimate with the top of the line Lexicon and looking at a 2018 Sport. Will it be identical? Or does anyone know for sure if there was any minor tweaks upgrades? Better yet, has anyone compared the two???

Just like everyone, I know it lacks bass by a LONG shot...but I love the clear sound of my 2015, especially acoustic music.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I drove both, 18s have a few more adjustments and the bass is much better than a 15.

You just made my day, sir!!! Thank you for sharing. Do you know why the bass is much better? Did they tweak the software or add a better sub?

They have two more surround options, and the bass is night and day different than what's on the 15.

I love my cars sound system with the 2 12in subs that I have. otherwise without them the cars sound system isn't tuned for music I like so it's a letdown from me. the low end is weak along with the mid and there's not much "punchiness" i guess is the word for the speakers. but again once you put in your own subs you get a really good balance in my opinion.

Oh, I won't be adding subwoofers... All I need is the factory sound system. In fact, like I said in the original post I don't really mind the system in my 2015 but a little more bass would be nice. Or fullness, lets say. But, it sounds like perhaps the 2018 has that. We'll see if anyone else chimes in.

It has a bit more control, but I don't think it is a huge difference. I listen to a variety of music on SiriusXm and it suites my needs.

A few years ago I started a thread on the difference in the sound quality between my 2012 vs. my 2015. Many agreed, at the time, that the 2015 was lacking something, maybe fullness is a good term. I am happy to say that someone at Genesis was listening and tweaked the system. The sound in my 2018 is awesome once again. Deep clean bass and a full enjoyable sound.

Thank you for the post! Great information. Now this has peaked my curiosity - I wonder if they changed/modified any of the speakers or amp, or if they simply made a software tuning adjustment. If it was simply software and no hardware, I wonder if the 2015, 2016 and 2017 owners could be upgraded? Maybe that's for another topic, and probably a question for a Genesis engineer, haha.

What I noticed is that the newer ones versus the 2015 have the subwoofer open into the trunk where the 2015 was fully enclosed in all that stuff in the trunk to make it look nice.

Can anyone post pictures of s 2015 vs a 2018? I wonder if opening up the insulation on the subwoofer would imporve the sound?

It might, but not all that much. The original Genesis in 2009 came without the cover, but it was an option and some people put them on, and didn't really complain about the bass response (although bass should be better without the cover, because the entire trunk becomes the speaker cabinet, and cabinet size can be important for bass response).

What happened in 2015 is "apparently" that there were many problems with the 2009-2014 audio systems, that required the dealers to replace the entire units under warranty (dealers don't know how to fix them). The failures were probably caused by owners playing the system too load and blowing up the components, due to lack of sufficient overload protection circuitry.

So in 2015 with the G2 they put in some kind of limiters to keep the systems from blowing up, but it reduced the quality of the sound. When the G80 refresh came out in 2018 (not sure about the 2017), they finally figured out how to keep the systems from blowing up, without destroying the sound quality.

The 2018 system sounds far superior to the 2015-2017 system. The 2018s have QuantumLogic 7.1 Surround with a couple different surround modes but the clarity, bass extension, and instrument separation simply sounds superior on the 2018 system unlike the mush of the 2015-2017 system.

Most people who have had multiple Genesis models say that the 2009-2014 was very good also (except it had a higher than normal incidence of breaking down). So I don't think the "QuantumLogic" means anything when comparing Genesis sound systems. The Genesis 17 speaker system always had 7.1 Surround Sound, and Lexicon has been in the business of home theater surround sound for many, many years.

The 2018 system is better than 2015-2017 for reasons I explained above in a previous post.

I haven't been in a G80 (maybe it's time for another Houston or Austin meet guys, what do you say!!!), but I too admit the 2015 sucked compared to previous models. I will add that adding a couple of subs fixed it up nicely.

QuantumLogic does add better sound positioning than the generic "Surround Sound" checkbox of previous iterations.

Did you test that with a 2009-2014 model?
