  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've owned this 2016 Genesis sedan for 14 months I started having trouble intermittently about a month ago but now it won't start at all. The battery, I assumed was original eqpt so I replaced it. All the cables are in good condition. No corosion. I here what sounds to me like the starter intitiating a start but the engine never turns over. Has anyone else experienced this?

Welcome. Moving this to the second generation Genesis Sedan forum.

Thank you Sal. Obviously I have a bit to learn about the website. I'm not real computer savy.

Not sure if it is the same for this car since it is heavy on electronics. If you hear a clicking but no turnover that is a sign that the starter motor is bad. The clicking is the solenoid trying to get the starter to engage, so the battery is getting power to it. Can always confirm this by hitting the starter with a hammer, if you can get to it easily.
Even then, the starter will need to be replaced ASAP as it is on it's way out.
Might be something else, but that's been the story on all my other vehicles to date.

Tough to say given all the electronics, and even a new battery can drain. yeah starter sounds likely, although intermittent failure as a symptom, maybe battery.

Might also be a bad battery, I had one replaced under warranty but in that case the car was 100 dead and non responsive.

Thank you for the input. I did replace the battery. Everything in the car is functional. I have read that starters sometimes will work intermittently. Perhaps I've finally got to the end of its life. I've also heard that replacement is difficult because there are skid plates protecting the undercarriage. Has anyone had experience?

Are you sure the battery has a good charge? I replaced my battery a few years ago and in six months or so it sat for four or five days and the batt was dead. At times, the car has considerable current draw while sitting.

Make sure cables are tight from the battery to the junction block under the hood. Nothing on the car pulls current like the starter and it needs good tight connections. Rule out all battery, relay and wiring possibilities before suspecting the starter.

The starter's not hard to get to after you remove the front under panel. Just a few phillips head screws and plastic snap in panel clips.

there are posts on this board about the positive battery terminal not tightening properly to the battery post. I would check that especially if the battery was recently replaced.

Thank you all for the input. My problem was a bad starter. Does anyone know of a repair manual for 2016 Genesis sedan?

Does anyone have access to the Google drive folder? I am attempting to access the service manual for a 2012 genesis 5.0
