  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2016 ultimate genesis car is dead

Crusty is correct. It is a vent. Please make sure that plastic line is there and connected. When a battery is charged it generates hydrogin gas which is very explosive. Take a trunk full if hydrogin gas and a bad connection to a battery that makes a spark when you hit the key and you have a bomb. I have seen the results and it wasn't nice. The trunk lid was missing in action and the car was totaled. The driver only sufferd some temporary hearng loss

Is that for AGM batteries also, or only for lead-acid ones?

I am not a battery expert by any means, but I do know that lead-acid batteries must be ventilated. From what I have read about AGM, they should be ventilated in case of over charging.
We had an Auto Electric shop for 28 years. When we closed, AGM batteries were just beginning to be used in cars. We didn't see the newer cars until after the warranty was out, so no experience with them.
Do the 2016s have AGM batteries? I haven't payed any attention to mine yet but will be checking it.
For now, If you have a vented battery, make sure it is connected.

so the car died in the same fashion 3 more times in the past week, i restarted each time the same way, replugging that white terminal. anyway, i brought it to hyundai right now, pulled into the service bay, and went to see the advisors, car was dead :P i said, thats precisely why i brought it in. service tech had to attach a battery to drive it away. waiting for their diagnosis now.

Thank You for keeping us updated. Let us know the final outcome. My bet is the battery.

so thankfully like i mentioned the car was dead as soon as i shut it off at the dealer. they duplicated the no start concern and then tested everything, found no issues with batter, alternator or terminals, they think it may have been a loosely connected + terminal. they restarted mulitple times afterwards with no issues. so hoping its all resolved, ill update if im stranded again soon

Our batteries use a unique type of terminal connector. It's a crush bolt design. The nut that connects the terminal is rounded at the bottom. When you tighten the nut, it pushes downward and shifts the bracket to the side which then causes the clamp to tighten around the battery's post. Most battery terminals tighten from the side and "squeeze" the bracket around the post. This one doesn't work that way and is VERY finicky.

I was dealing with ongoing issues with the car acting like the battery was dead until I realized the terminals were very loose. I could actually pull them off by hand, with no tools.

Everyone should verify both terminals are tight, ensuring they don't swivel/turn at all by hand.

Also, if you have any accessories connected to your battery, do not attach them under the stock battery nut. The crush-type mechanism I described will fail. If you have accessories attached to the battery, find another nut, the same size as the stock one (but not rounded) and layer your connection (Stock Nut, Wire Connector, Aftermarket Nut). This will ensure your battery keeps the best connection, and your accessory won't interfere with the odd terminal style.

Hope that makes sense. It did in my head, but it's scary in there sometimes! ;)
