  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm a few days away from likely purchasing a 3.8 '16 Genesis with Tech. I have what I think is a decent quote for $46,000 (all taxes and fees included).

I'm looking for the group's thoughts on '16 vs the 2015 version of the car, which dealers seem to have in significant stock here in South Florida. I'm awaiting a response from my salesman regarding best price for a 2015, which is obviously an important point. Thoughts regarding one model vs the other, what sort of price difference would make the older car worthwhile, etc?

As noted in a previous post, I'm very interested in the adaptive cruise/lane keeping capabilities of the car, which I will use a lot-- should the technology be equivalent between the cars (ie, no improvements from one year to the next in hardware or software)?

Thanks in advance for your comments!

Same car - only 3 main differences:
  • DRL is white LED headlight surround on the 2016 versus amber bulb inboard of headlight on the 2015
  • LED fog lights are standard at Signature package and above on the 2016 V6 - not available on any 2015 V6 (can add yourself - but can cost ~$750 for a "like factory" install)
  • 5 year/60,000 mile warranty on the 2016 versus 3 year/36,000 mile on the 2015 (for non powertrain items - power train is 10 years/100,000 miles for both model years)

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Comes down the price difference. Would assume that 2015s would be about 10% lower...then that would make more sense, imho

you cant go wring with either, I'd save the cash and buy a 2015 and then use that money for a few mods :-)

Good luck and keep us updated!

Actually, the "new car warranty" remains 5 year/60,000 miles. The only warranty that increased in 2016 is on the Radio/Nav system, which was 3 year/36,000 miles for 2015 or older, but is now increasing to same as new car warranty starting in 2016. This is for all Hyundai's in the USA (except that Equus already had improved Radio/Nav warranty).

Good catch - thanks for clarifying!

I clarified this to the finance guy at the dealership Friday when I got my car, trying to sell me on an extended warranty. He looked genuinely surprised, but stopped in his tracks.

I am pretty sure he was not surprised about the warranty change for 2016, but maybe surprised that a customer actually know about it.

If the fog lights matter than the choice is clear. If the fog lights are not a significant factor then why pay more for nearly identical items to get something that is the same thing?

If there were a body design change or significant refresh of the car, well then maybe but otherwise go for the same budget you were allowing for the Tech package in the 2016 and get the Ultimate 2015 for the same money or less getting you a whole lot more car for the same money.

You wont regret the Ultimate's niceties.

The 2015 will be worth somewhat less at resale time. Be sure to add that to your bargaining chips...

Especially since some are actually going to be 2 years old come May.

+1

They hate consumers that research things....

True. However, date of production has no bearing on depreciated value. Only the designated model year.
