  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Posting this in hopes it helps others. I was having issues with my 2017 G80 3.5 CarPlay dropping out. It happened occasionally over the years, but this time was unable to fix it. Had updated iPhone 14 Pro and the car with latest updates. Would connect for a second or two then drop.

Then the USB port stopped charging my phone. Tried other cables, cleaning the port on the car and my phone, and all the other things you're supposed to do. The other 12V plugs would charge my phone using an adapter plug.

Figured it was a bad USB port. Ordered the replacement center console piece on eBay for about $40.

Dismantled the car and put the new one in (after having to change the lids because the replacement part had a textured lid instead of smooth like mine) in about 3 hours.

Everything seems to work perfectly now! CarPlay connects and stays connected.

You have to remove the center floor console in order to replace the USB console. This video helped with that https://youtu.be/5ZQhjUdwlOo. I don't think the video mentioned that there are 2 screws by the gear shift that have to be removed for the center console to come out.

I thought I had to remove the stereo, so I started with that, but I think I could have just removed the center console. This video was helpful in removing the stereo.

I would take pictures of the back of the stereo before removing the plugs. Had one plug leftover behind the stereo that I couldn't find a place to plug it in. Hopefully, it's nothing important! All the radio features including XM, bluetooth, and navigation are working.

Well after all that work and having it work for a few days, the Carplay no longer works. But at least the USB port charges. So frustrating.

Any update on this, I have a 2016 3.8 sedan and the carplay will connect and disconnect randomly, but my iphone still charges even when carplay disconnects. I have tried many different cords, and now I'm thinking it is definitely something on the car and not with my phone or the cord.

No update. Some days it works, and some days it doesn't. Seems to work a little better if I have wifi off, but that's no magic cure. I plugged my phone into a friend's Hyundai Santa Fe (2022 or 2023) and didn't have any issues with CarPlay.

Another update - CarPlay stopped working and then my USB port used for CarPlay stopped charging. It hadn’t worked for a couple of weeks.

I had a theory that there was some sort of static buildup in the port. So I took off the gearshift and the panel around it, unplugged the 2 plugs that go into the USB port (circled in yellow) and plugged them back in. CarPlay started working again!

It’s about a 10-15 minute procedure and isn’t that hard to do.
