If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. 2017 Genesis G80 Ultimate panoramic sunroof leak. Exact front drain hole location?

Hello All:

2017 Genesis G80 Ultimate panoramic sunroof leak. Does anyone know where the front drain holes are? Should be the same for a 2015 or 2016 Hyundai Genesis (basically the same cars, hence the posting here)

Not sure how long this has been an issue. Over the last month I have noticed the cloth covering the front interior pillars has been damp or frankly wet during or following a heavy rain. With a heavy rain there was also much water dripping to the shifter area from the mid area. I held a cup to catch the water one night. The interior color is off white and luckily no staining seen so far.

When I checked the front sunroof area I cannot see or find the drain holes. Perhaps covered by the pop up cloth louver or other items.
No luck on a web search and nothing clearly noted in the owner’s manuals for the Hyundai Genesis or Genesis G80.

I will also post to the Genesis G80 forum.

Any assistance appreciated.

Hey, did you ever find anything about this ? I'm having the exact same issue on a 2016.

Same drain holes. You need to clean them all, as water can slosh front to back when stopping or accelerating.

The issue is that the sunroof drain holes are covered by a glass panel trim piece which blocks access to the drain holes. So cleaning the sunroof drain holes on the Genesis is not as straight forward like in your link. The drain holes are located on front of the sunroof frame (#5 on diagram); covered by the front glass (#6 on diagram).

I never said anything about all of the drains being easily accessed.

I never said that you said it was easy to clean the sunroof drains in our cars. I stated that the process was not as straight forward as provided in the examples of cleaning sunroof drains in your link of a web search on the topic.

The 2015+ Genesis(G80) has a barrier(glass trim) that complicate the sunroof drain cleaning process; which is what I was clarifying.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
So, what are you going to do?

To clean my sunroof drains; I would try to first use a small vacuum hose to suck up any debris under the glass trim and then use an small air tube to blow into(or around) the sunroof drains to hopefully dislodge any blockage. It will be difficult to do under the glass trim piece.

The second course of action would be to suck the drain tubes from the exit points with a vacuum cleaner under the pillar trim or body exit drainage holes to hopefully pull out the debris.

I would use small vacuum attachment like this on either end of the drain openings.

Hello Folks:
Thank you very much for the replies and helpful hints. As you note, not an easy task. My very limited attempts failed. I took the car to a body shop to deal with multiple other items. (Long wait to get in due to COVID, parts, and labor shortages, etc.) He tried to blow out the area, but not really sure what was done. He did not want to mess with the glass to get there, perhaps due to labor costs for disassembly and reassembly. He suggested I go to a Hyundai (?or Kia) dealership for further assistance as there are no full time Genesis dealers in the New Orleans area. I do not think anyone tried to snake the drain from below with some sort of thin wire (if an appropriate wire even exists) or an air blast of some type, like to dust computer interiors, to clear any tiny debris, followed by blowing air or vacuuming around the hole at the sunroof. Whatever was done, has improved the front passenger interior pillar issue. Only gets slightly damp now. The front driver pillar still gets wet, but not as much as before. Thankfully no staining on an Ivory interior. These are not the desired results. I will continue to place a shower curtain over the sunroof during the daily rains here again. Of course, does not help when I am with the car away from home.

I will try to fashion a thin tip to reach the front of the sunroof. Hopefully sufficient suction and blowing lots of air through this will be enough to dislodge some muck. Thank you for the amazon suggestion. If these do not work, I suspect going to a dealer will cost $500 or so due to taking off and then putting the sunroof back on. Given that I rarely open the sunroof, it might be reasonable to seal it with some minimally invasive product. I can still retract the cloth to let sun shine in. If I lived in San Diego, where I might drive with roof open, that would be another story.

BTW, where did you get the sunroof diagram from? Do you have a similar diagram to find the drain holes in front of the front doors?

Again, thanks....and from NOLA with love.....

Any idea where are the exit points? Both my e350 and my G80 have this issue. Mercedes exit points are behind the front fenders and getting to is not that difficult. Don't feel like taking everything apart on the genesis in hopes of finding the drain.

did you ever get a conclusive answer from dealer. I have the same problem with 2019 Hyundai Santa fe and had my windscreen radar changed twice and fuse panel damaged. I dont think there are any drains, diagrams do not show any tubes . Have you found any?
