If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2018 G80 Sport Random Complete Power Loss

Thanks again, and yes, I was incorrectly presuming the 8 on the bolt was the size.

If the problem turns out to be that they stripped the threads inside the part that receives the M6 bolt, what are my options then?
They should replace the entire fuse box at their expense.

I guess I spoke too soon on my "fix". I was on another longer drive again (2hrs) and stopped at a rest area. The car locked fine, and when I returned it recognized my key in proximity and the mirrors automatically adjusted and I was allowed to unlock the doors with the button and get in. When I pushed the start button, everything immediately went dark and it was "dead". I decided to pop the hood and knocked on the plastic cover of the fuse box/jumper connectors and the car immediately came back to life upon the first tap. Thoughts?

This isn't really something I want to take into a dealership for fear they will blow through hours trying to track down an electrical gremlin and rack up a huge bill and still possibly fail to solve the problem.

When I hook up my code reader to the car, the only thing I get is a P0106 which I previously took the car into a dealership to resolve over a year ago and they replaced the MAP sensor, but I still get that message coming up occasionally. (The check engine light will come on every few months and the car might run a little sluggish/with hesitation in the first couple gears while light is lit, but usually by morning the check engine light is off and the car runs perfectly fine for several weeks or months again. This has happened a few times a year since I've owned the car over the past 3 years.)

I happened to check for any open Recalls for my 2018 Genesis G80 3.3t today and found none, but one of them that was just performed last month caught my eye. It is Recall 018G 2017-19MY G80(DH), 2019MY G90(HI), 2019MY G70(IK) STARTER RELAY KIT INSTALLATION which was performed on my vehicle 5 days prior to my loss of power problems - it had never happened before this and now it happens 2-3 times a week. As I have mentioned, my problem appears to happen only when I push the button to turn the car off or turn the car on, and this recall referring to the Starter Relay Kit Installation seems highly probable that it may be related to my new problems, no?
I'm having this exact same issue after the same recall was fix, today... the power went out and no matter what I try the car won't come back on. However when I open and close the driver side of the door, the car randomly starts itself without me touching any buttons. Can you update on if your dealership was able to fix? - thanks!

I was able to fix it myself. The part they replaced is in the fuse box and there are three bolts that hold down the power for it. If you look back through this thread, there are pictures of those bolts. Check that all three of them are tight. If any of them are loose, it can cause this problem.

I too had the exact problem soon after the Starter relay recall and worst of all, it shut off on me while driving on the hwy 5 times, the first time, I felt a hard jerk and suddenly, lost of all power with no power instantly out of no where and few seconds later, it turns back on like it was on acc, lost all steering transmission, breaks, ect,.. could of cause a nasty accident if it was a curve at 50 to 65 mph county hwys, I was lucky it was during the day,.. next thing you know, my battery light came on and ever since, I'm having issues of it stalling while driving with lghts coming on one after another starting with the power steering, then all warning lights, and it stalls after the last warning light comes in and having a complete dead battery.. recently my car stalled again but this time, my car stalled while driving home in the evening. When the warning lights came on, I knew it was going to stall so I slowed down, when it did stall, lost all power and the road was pitch black and couldn't see a thing, and had to guess the 2 lane hwy where to pull off and I was serious dangerous while I stopped completely in the middle of the hwy with on coming traffic and no break lights or anything to warn others I'm stalled, I quickly got out and turned on my phone to flash my lights at traffic my way which probably saved my life from a semi coming my way! Long story short, I just bought a new battery from O'Reilly's and that new battery, had a bad cell off the start and caused more problems to my car,. Went and got a 2nd one and what you know, the same thing noticing, they gave me a "year old battery as exchange in warranty"! I was post, i just got the 3rd one and haven't installed it yet, because now I'm ordering an alternator as we speak before putting in the 3rd new battery! I'm def, disappointed that the recall on the starter relay kit, caused a lot of life problems because of lost of work, with my car being down and didnt have a ride to go to work and much more financially, all because Genesis faulty paronia on car fires that don't happen unless controlled my a switch, which I felt that has something to do with pressing a remote to shut things off with my suspicions lol, I will report my losses over relying on a Luxury Brand of reliability and loss of financials,.. My visit to Genesis prior to the recall, well, there's another story there too,.. I never concent to that recall and only for a abs and oil feed line recall, and they put this starter relay in with out knowing, well, that's another story to this relay switch, that brought me here

I had some really scary/dangerous moments as well. I went back to the dealership service department, same that installed the starter recall kit, i showed them videos of how the car was behaving and they confirmed that the recall kit they installed at first was defective so they reinstalled an entirely new kit. It's been a couple weeks since and the car seems OK.

This has just started with me also but I had the starter recall done several months ago. Can you put the thread you're referring to here that's associated with the 3 bolts? I was unable to find the threads.

I know this thread is old but I'm having this EXACT same problem with my 2017 G80! Bought the car 3 weeks ago, it started happening about 10 days in so we bought a new battery. Problem still kept happening so I took it to Genesis this past friday 09/12 and they thought it was a faulty starter relay fix so they replaced it and said it was fine. Next day the car completely dies 3 times, I have to either jump it or press down on the starter relay cables. Next day happens twice. So this morning I have it back at Genesis and of course they have no loaner cars but they need to diagnose the problem first before they could even give me one. I'm so frustrated with this whole process!!!! What did they eventually say was wrong?

I started looking around for the issue and it seems to be with the positive cable on the battery. When dead, go in the trunk and just touch the positive cable. I can almost guarantee it will regain power. Everything is tight but it somehow seems not to have a tight enough connection to the battery post. I purchased the battery post covers from Advance Auto but they made the post too large for the battery end to fit. I got the battery end tightened as much as I could without stripping the threads...... it's been about 2 months so far without the issue happening again. Try tightening the positive cable in the trunk....hopefully you'll have positive results. Good luck.
