  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

There are 2 strange noises that occur, the most concerning of which is the clunky dribbling noise that can be noticed in both Drive and when coasting in Neutral. Does this sound like a suspension issue to you?

The other strange noise is what I'm sure is the LSD whirring noise, and does not seem to be a serious issue, very mild. Despite the LSD only being 10k miles old, replaced last year by the dealer under warranty, I will be doing a diff oil change for it with Royal Purple, and maybe additional FM if needed to fix the whirring noise.

Any guidance towards fixing either one of these noises would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Odd noise indeed. My 2019's on the original diff, doesn't make that noise, and has 40+ 1/4 mile launches on it.

Wonder if the dealer filled it properly when installing the replacement.

WTF? Who did that work? There's something loose down there. It's disturbing. The whirring/moaning is odd, but that's the least of your problems now. You need to find what the heck is wrong, and fix it asap. Sounds like something could fall off or break at any moment. But I'm afraid you'd be better off taking the car with somebody who knows what he's doing, at least to diagnose what's wrong. Good luck.

I started to have the exact same clunking noise from the rear. My car is 2018 G80 Sport currently at 80,000kms. I believe these noises come from rear cross member/suspension assembly such as bushings and joints. I'm Korean and there are lot of Genesis owners that had the same issue.

Were you able to get diagnosed and find what the issue was?

Yes, sounds like what you're talking about. Rear sway bar link had walked off whatever it was supposed to be attached to. They fixed it for about 160 in parts and 40 in labor (maybe the other way around, don't remember) all covered under warranty.

On another note, I've been struggling with what is seemingly a common issue on these cars - AC intermittently blowing warm/ambient/humid air for about 30 seconds before going back to cool. This happens frequently enough to be concerned and uncomfortable, but the dealer has been unable to replicate the problem. They essentially told me that the only way they'll be able to help me is if it gets even worse.

I have a 19 as well and never heard those noises. Glad to hear they fixed the loose sway bar. Yikes on the rear diff noise. Would not expect that from any car within its original warranty but see that part was replaced so either a poor job of installing the replacement or it was also defective.

Regarding your last comment never noticed anything odd with the AC in my almost 4 years of ownership.

I haven't noticed that on my G70 yet (6K+ miles), but just experienced it on my '22 Santa Fe Calligraphy (10K+ miles), when traveling back home. Really weird. My guess is an electronic gremlin, as if it was something else, it'd be more prevalent. I want to make you aware of a $25 part that could be the culprit: The thermistor. Doubt it's that with those symptoms, but it's always possible, I guess. Not going to worry about that for now, but if it gets worse, then I'd be really annoyed. But remember for a dealer to do anything, they'd have to be able to duplicate the problem. So don't waste your time now.

Clunking noise can be attributed to multiple things. It could be the suspension, bushings going out, or even something loose in the trunk area. Diagnosing this can be a pain as it will be solved by process of elimination.

The first thing I would do is have someone else drive while you're in the back seat. Listen by turning your head and moving around to pinpoint where the sound is coming from, and feel around with your hands as you get closer to the sound. This will give you a better idea of where to look next.

Then jack up the car and place on stands. Crawl under car and start wriggling things around in the area you heard the knock. It doesn't sound like it has anything to do with a mechanically powered device (drive shaft, differential, wheel/ tire) it's too erratic. I would check on components around the diff though like bushings or a loose bolt (as that was what was changed). Second I would check the exhaust straps and bushings.

While you're at it (make sure vehicle is in neutral and front tires are chocked), turn the rear wheels and feel for any grinding. It should be smooth like butter. If you feel any bumping, you have a drive train issue. To further troubleshoot, disconnect drive shaft from diff and do the same thing. You're eliminating the transmission and drive shaft. If smooth it's further up the chain. I would suspect the diff though. You can also push and pull on the wheels to check for any lateral movement. There should be non.
