  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got a mystery for everyone!

I purchased a 2020 G70 Havana Red/Black Nappa Red Stitching 2.0T RWD about a month ago.

Carfax was limited, but showed 1 previous owner, registered in California September 23, 2020. Was then sold at auction with only 299 miles March 5, 2021, then I purchased it June 25, 2021 with 388 miles on the odometer.

After purchase, I found the original window sticker indicating a mysterious "Build F" (see pics). The car showed MGM Las Vegas as the ship point, but with Genesis North America's address. In the Nav, which was not reset, there were 2 previous destinations; MGM Grand Las Vegas Convention Center and Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas. There's also no total price; just shows TBD.

Also, in fine print on the bottom, it states "PGA CJ Cup ETA October 3, 2020". On October 15-18, the PGA Tour did have its CJ Cup Tournament at Shadow Creek and Genesis was a sponsor, as was MGM Resorts.

Also interesting is that it has options from Elite, Prestige and Sport, but not all of the options from each. I would say its a Sport, but does not have Brembo brakes nor the summer tires.

I've attached the 2020 trim level options from the 2020 brochure and highlighted what options my car has.

I called customer service to activate the connected services, etc. and they confirmed that the previous owner was Genesis North America and as such they could edit that to reflect me as the original owner (win!).

Back to the topic...has anyone else purchased or seen a "Build F" or know anything about it? Guessing is had to be a PR/Marketing vehicle, but still curious about the build and features.

I don't know anything about the build F, but I would be saying "a PGA player drove this car for the week they were playing in the tourney! - that's my story and I'm sticking to it"

I'll be following to see if anyone knows more than me (which isn't a high bar).

So I did some more "hunting".

Looking more closely at the delivery address, the nav previous destinations and the mileage when the car sold at auction. I suspect it was driven from Genesis corporate in Fountain Valley to Vegas (269 miles).

Still interested to see if others know what this "Build F" is...maybe its 1 of a kind!!! Haha!

Since your car is Havana Red, my educated guess is that this was part of the buyback cars (bad paint).

"The paint was fixed at the factory then the cars were wholesaled back to the dealerships so they can be resold as used models. A number of these cars are even Genesis Certified, and the one my client bought even retained the concierge-style service."

alternatively, this is an odd situation as event demo cars are often not made available for sale... Trying to find out what happened to Audi R8's at a driving event - I thought they said the cars were disassembled or sent back to Germany or something. (then again they had way more than 299 miles)

Do you mind sending me the VIN # to it? I'm curious as to what it says on the dealer side of it.

Was able to confirm its not one of these. Neighbor is a GM at a collision center nearby and went over the car with a fine tooth comb...all original paint.

Also, manufacturer buybacks would have a label inside the doorjamb indicating so.

if nothing else this is a very interesting story

Telling from my personal experiences: car auctions are a cool idea to use but have some risks.

I am just interested in: why did people buy a car, drove a week, and then decided to sell it at the auction? Or was it confiscated by the police? The question without an answer.

Even though this "F" letter is in your car... I believe it is a technology of aliens that will drove us to the best future we may achieve. Or will just annihilate all of us (joke).

A couple of months ago I obtained through Used Cars Auction house the car, which was sold right after the death of its owner. He died due to a heart attack... Now I am really worried about the fact that the spirit of the car may kill me... Just have read horror stories about that.

Anyway, I am glad that you have bought the unique (I hope so at least) car. Please update, if something new will happen :3
