My question is why would you ask such a question?Quick question. Does G70 automatically switch the shift to P from D OR R when the driver side door is open while it is in completely stopped condition?
FWIW, my G80 does not but gives me a warning to shift to Park. They don't want you moving the car with the door open.My question is why would you ask such a question?
My wife just had a accident in a drive thru while she was picking up the food. She opened the diver side the door to pick up her credit card fell off by the drive thru window and g70 started moving reverse (drive thru was slightly uphill) with the door open so she bumped the other car behind on the drive thru and stopped. The door, front left fender pannel and the rear bumper were damaged. I am trying to get a footage to investigate this accident because g70 did not engage to P shift while moving reverse with a door open. I would appreciate any comments and helps on this.My question is why would you ask such a question?
With all due respect, why would you expect or desire your car to make decisions for you based on programing rather than allowing you to make your own informed decisions? We all do dumb things once in a while, but blaming the car for the issue you describe ( if I’m understanding correctly) is a little extreme, IMO. I am not blaming on the car. The function must be added to protect the accident like our's and I just want to make sure that my understanding on the function correctly before I proceed my accident report. Whatever the reason, if the function is not properly operated, it could be looked into it as a owner of the vehicle. Also I have seen many recall cases on some genesis models that the P shift was released on the uphill parking position and I am suspecting g70 might have that issue too. Thank you for your reply anyway. With all due respect, why would you expect or desire your car to make decisions for you based on programing rather than allowing you to make your own informed decisions? You didn't say which door was open, but if another car was hit, it seems like the PASSENGER door, not the driver's one, no? No car does that. At any rate, the car is NOT supposed to put itself on P if you open a door (there's no such law); auto manufacturers add 'safety' crap like that to try to prevent accidents, but many of us do NOT want such 'features', since I never heard they'd prevent an accident until now. Ha ha. And they're super annoying to most of us. At least you can reverse with the door open after a 2nd try, like if you want to put the car on ramps, or want to see how close you're to a curb, etc.I am trying to get a footage to investigate this accident because g70 did not engage to P shift while moving reverse with a door open.

Finally, a message for the OP: Remember your car also has AUTO HOLD, which holds the brakes for you until you hit the gas pedal. Not sure if that would have prevented your accident, but just wanted to mention that. Another easy thing is to just put the car in P yourself if you need to get distracted with such actions. Guess you guys already learned that lesson the hard way, but don't blame the car; it'd have happened on ANY car. Good luck with the fix.
