  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just bought a used 2010 certified 4.6. Can't wait to bring it home tomorrow! Was going to see how it performed in the snow before I decided to put snow tires on. I found a set of used rims (not OEM) with 255/50R17 Blizzaks locally on Craigslist. Could I used these? I know others have suggested moving from 18 inch to 17 inch is recommended for snows. Any input is appreciated.

The OEM 17" tires on the Genesis V6 with Base Trim Level is 225/55R17. Whether or not it is possible, or advisable, to use 255/50R17, I don't know. Find a tire size calulator on the Internet to calculate the exact diameter differences compared to the OEM 18" tires (or the 225/55R17 Base Model tires, which should be very close to the same diameter of the Genesis OEM 18" tires).

I assume you know that not all 17" 5-bolt rims will fit the Genesis, but that is another subject.

All,
Try below website. If you pop $11.00 you can get a very good exact read out of what fits your car. For what it's worth, I'm running 275x40 19's on after market wheels 19x9 with a 35mm offset and 5/16th inch wide spacers on a R-Spec with zero issues and 6500 miles on it. Search the below website for how to load all the info. into tables to see if they will work.

This link compares the diameters of two different tire sizes.

Looks like the 255/50R17 is actually 5mm smaller in overall diameter than OEM 235/50R18 (less than 1% difference), so should work fine in terms of diameter. Not sure if extra width would cause any problems in terms of tire hitting the fender, but I doubt it since difference is only 20mm (10mm per side).

Only other question is whether the rims fit. The same website says you need rims with:

  • Bolt pattern: 5x114.3 (5x4.5).
  • Offset: 35 to 45 mm.
