2nd Generation “Future-proof”

Hey everyone,

I wanted to know everyone’s thoughts about the 2nd Gen sedan design and how well it holds up today! I have a 2015 so it has the older LED headlight setup but that’s about it that I notice style wise from the newer models. I absolutely love the design maybe even more so than the new generation! The side profile and tail lights are very sporty imo! I also think they did an excellent choice in including the safety features as many of them still are on brand new cars today. The interior is very well put together and minimalistic which I like however I can admit they have refined it over the years. Overall I think they did an amazing job and really helped push Genesis into the spotlight! I would be interested in how long you guys think this car will look current.

I agree that Hyundai broke the mold with the 2nd Generation Genesis/G80 models in terms of styling and equipment. Very nice car from 2015-2020. Hence, why i do not feel the need to trade in my 2015 5.0 Ultimate model as of yet. Not many newer luxury cars has anything that it does not and some newer cars has less.

Basically the reason I bought my 2015 but 6 years later, there's still the G90 so I traded for that. It addressed one big shortcoming for me with the 2015 Genesis 5.0L Ultimate... no Android auto. The 2015 side profile looks much better than the G90 but they're different classes of cars. I still think the 2015 styling looks better than the new G80 as well.

The tech in the 2015 was great for its time but what comes on a standard Sonata will outperform it. The lane keep worked but it's no LFA/HDA... it can be corrected by installing OpenPilot. The SCC wasn't smooth at all and slammed on the brakes all the time on the highway and was just horrid in stop and go. I've heard later G80's can adjust the sensitivity and response time but I haven't tried it out.

The G90 has its shortcomings too... at least for my use. It's too big of a car for me to drive to and from work.... but I wanted one last V8 luxo sedan and this was the last one sans turbo. I say that now but if a NA V8 is still available in 5-6 years, I'd probably trade in again... lol... I traded in at a good time too, my MDPS was starting to spit out electrical noise through my stereo when I turned left..

Not to derail this thread, but I went to look at the price again, and their hyundai/genesis kits are gone.

They listed a new base module today (!) that adds wireless Android Auto, wireless screen mirroring, camera support (?), and a "knob" (external plug-in knob, but they say OEM support for some vehicles). I can only hope that means they'll release a new kit for the Genesis sometime soon. Wireless Android Auto would really be the last thing I want for "future-proofing" my car that I can think of.
