If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Manual says 7.4 quarts, does this mean 4 tenths (12.8 oz) or just 4 oz. My first thought is 12.8 oz but I removed approximately 16 oz after dealer oil change, to bring level to F mark on dip stick.

I'd read it as .4 of a quart or 12.8 ounces

It would mean 4/10 of a quart but it does not matter. If you drain the oil and put in 7.4 quarts it will be overfilled. That may be the fill in the brand new engine at the factory but when drained there is always residue left. Go by the dipstick and it will be closer to 7 quarts.

It can even vary on where you change the oil. Of a lift it will possible drain better than if you drive up on ramps.

I think you are over thinking it. Oil comes in quart containers, Typically 1 quart or 5 quart containers. 0.4 quarts simply means about a half a quart. Using a bit less (1/4 quart) or a bit more (3/4 quart) won’t make any difference. Just add 7 and one half quarts or so and don’t worry about it.

I would worry about it. How do you know if it was properly drained. The manual clearly warns against overfilling. The dip stick is what you should go by. If it's above the fill level, make the dealer drain or extract the excess to get it right.

how crazy is .8 of a oz. No wonder the dealer can't get it right
How crazy is it to stubbornly continue to measure oil in quarts when the rest of the world uses liters. As Speeder already pointed out this car uses 7 liters of oil.

Myanmar and Liberia are counting on us. Just think of it as 3 1/2 soda bottles.

Come on man, do you want to obsolete those 9/16" sockets and 13/16 wrenches?

All our machines at work were metric. The maintenance and setup guys cursed them for the first few weeks and now never want to go back to SAE sizes.

what ever happened to the amount of oil stated with or without changing the oil filter ?
They don't recommend changing oil and not the filter.

I took the car back twice on the same day. Dealer insisted the level was ok. Ordered hand extractor from Amazon, and removed 16 oz to bring level to F mark on stick. I have pictures and may post if I get the time. Very disappointed in service at this dealer.:mad::mad:

Is that the oil you removed in the container in the picture? Didn’t you just have it changed? Why is it already that dark (black)? Full synthetic shouldn’t look like that after a few hundred miles. Starting to think the reason you had slightly too much oil is they didn’t bother changing the filter and added the correct amount of oil for a filter and oil change out. It’s also why the oil is black already. Just a thought….

I agree with you, and stated so to the service manager. He claims that the filter was changed. I asked for the oil and filter change because the car is 6 months old (only 1675 miles). I think they were to lazy to remove and change filter, it is a pain to get to on the 3.5 t motor. I will change filter and oil myself. The oil in the picture is from the car after 25 miles of driving since oil change. No more dealer service for me. GREAT WORK GENESIS OF LAS VEGAS
