  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

my DH is on the way to 200K km(125K miles). I will have now an oil change and Im thinking to flush the engine.
Im aware that this is a procedure that can end in two different ways. One to be good for engine, other to clog the oil system.
Please let me know your toughts and if you do flushing your engine, what additive you use.

Thanks!

If you have been using good quality oil and reasonable oil change intervals, there is no reason or value at all to doing an engine flush. If you haven't, a flush won't fix that.

I would not flush the engine unless it was a poorly maintained engine that was running badly(stuck piston rings).

I would just change the oil more frequently and use quality high mileage engine oil that has a more aggressive detergent package to keep the engine internals clean.

A flush additive could clog the small VVT oil passages and maybe even the passages for the rod bearings with sludge and vanish. A flush can also reduce the lubrication of the engine oil on the engine parts and cause some additional wear on the engine internals. Not worth the risk on a good running engine.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I've heard too many stories of a flush gone bad.
Keep up with oil changes.
