  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The car went in for its 3 year 60,000 km service visit today. Complained about the overheating charge port issue again, Apparently Genesis still has no resolution to offer me. Its been 3 freaking years surely there is an updated part to sort this problem. I am starting to think they have no intention on fixing this problem and likely expect folks will give up trying or trade in their vehicles.
Complained about an intermittent steering wheel shudder when turning at parking lot speed. They couldn't reproduce it, so they just told me to monitor. Complained about excessive driver's seat movement. I initially was told they couldn't reproduce but eventually agreed it was a problem, and ordered a new seat rail. They completed 2 recall campaigns. I can't remember a service visit without a recall campaign. Good news is I got to drive a new GV80 as a loaner and came to appreciate I still love my GV60 much better. It such a good EV in so many ways. Its just a shame Genesis/Hyundai can't their sht together on a consumer perspective. I am growing weary on how Hyundai avoids its problems.

👍

Nice update, glad you’re still happy with.

IMO, EVs are still somewhat of an R&D project for manufacturers and buyers are beta testers. Thankfully your issues haven’t spoiled your ownership experience.

To be clear I have no issues with EVs as this is my third from Hyundai/Genesis in the past 7 years and 200,000 km of cumulative EV driving. I like my ICE cars but my daily drive will likely always be an EV. My main beef is their poor corporate culture in dealing with consumer troubles that they have caused. I realize there is no such thing as a perfect vehicle but man up and do the right thing if its your fault. After 3 years of no resolution to my problem Genesis/Hyundai is basically saying yeah we agree its a fault but we don't think its a big deal and are not bothered to fix it despite it being a legitimate warranty claim. It seems unless they are compelled by government oversight or significant financial loss they can't be bothered to do the right thing. Sadly, this is not the first poor response from Hyundai I have had in the years. I was foolishly tricked into believing buying their more expensive Genesis brand would be different, stupid me.

Funny enough I just came across car Jubilee video with similar frustrations.

I own a Kia EV6 (and a G70), and us Kia EV owners have been suffering with the overheating charge port as well.

My belief that it stemmed from a sloppy fit of the port, causing a higher resistance connection, was confirmed when the dealer finally had to replace a wiring harness (it lists for $1800!), which included the port connector, because of repeated error messages we were getting while L2 charging at home. The messages were not only for overheating of the port but of the charger circuit as well.

Since they replaced that harness and connectors, we have never gotten an overheating message and the port no longer gets hot at all while charging. I was even able to increase our charging current, after having lowered it to reduce the heating. You can also feel that the port is a much snugger fit than the old one.

Either they improved the design of the port or they designed it with sloppy tolerances and we just got lucky on the second one.

You might try talking to your service dept about it. Good luck and continue to enjoy your GV60. My friend has one and loves it also. It's so unique.

In case this helps, the wiring harness they replaced is officially called the "Inlet Assembly Combo Charger". Seemed like an odd name to me. It may go by the same name in the Genesis world, since the EGMP platform is somewhat universal to all of our EV cars.

My 2023 GV60P is getting up there but I have been fortunate to not have any major issues.

For years, I bought mainstream vehicles (Toyotas, Mazdas, etc.) and then, once my kids got out of college, I moved over to luxury brands. For many years I was a BMW driver and I test drove the iX and i4 (the only BMW EVs at the time) and loved the way they drove but couldn't get past my reaction to the front end design. While I have not had any major issues, I do expect a lot more from a luxury brand (Genesis) compared to a mainstream brand (Hyundai).

Unfortunately, it appears that when mainstream brands have a luxury colleague, the mainstream brands tends to have a negative impact on the luxury brand. GM and Ford have always used many parts from the Chevrolet and Ford cars to build Cadillac and Lincoln cars. The popular Lexus ES was basically a top of the line Toyota Avalon. There are even VW parts in Audis. Companies that started with luxury cars have tended to do better even if they eventually start making some more mainstream models (MB).

Nonetheless, even those companies promise and then don't deliver.

Yeah, it seems like the dealer doesn't feel they can get approval from Genesis until it throws a code or there is complete failure. My service advisor indicated they are going to petition for the repair but he is not hopeful. That's ok as I know true problems only get worse. I can wait and they will be fixing this eventually as I have another 100,000 km and 5 years left on my all inclusive parts and labor Genesis extended warranty. As a rule I never get extended warranties but I am glad my wife talked me into this when we bought the car. I think short of something catastrophic we will be keeping the car for quite a while. I honestly see no advantage to trading in on a new GV60 especially as there are no interesting color options like my Sao Paulo Lime. I love the bold/unique color that was only available in the first year and I know for a fact there are exactly 2 Lime GV60s(including mine) in my city of nearly million folks . Plus its crazy easy to find your car in a crowed parking lot :)

oh my God... another "grill guy"!! BMW, Lexus (SUV), Cadillac Optiq... I find something objectionable to them all! Although I _will_ say that the ix3 and soon-to-come i3 seem to be much improved in that department.

I have the same issue with seat movement. Let us know when they replace the seat rail if that solves the problem.
