  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone done a muffler delete only on the 4.6? Thinking of doing this soon.

The only one I've heard is this one but this is before it reaches the catalytic converters...it sounds good though.

Sounds good enough, but I'd be worried about it being too loud on the street and in the cabin.

When I had to drive to the exhaust shop to have them modify the Magnaflow catback in order for it to fit I drove with one of the pipes open pre-cat.

Ignoring the fact that it sounded like dog shit because I have a V6, it was way way way too loud - like unbearably so even for someone who likes a beefy exhaust tone.

Taking off from a dead stop slowly was embarrassing. I basically nursed it all the way to the shop to avoid looking like total tool. Maybe the V8 will sound better though, who knows.

Thanks for the reply....that was before the cat also..so I'm thinking just deleting the mufflers only and keeping the cats might not be so bad for a V8.

I don't like it......It sounds like a small-bore V6 when rev'd up. The acoustics are all out of wack with this mod, at least in this video.

Look close at the end of the video...There is no muffler connected at all. The exhaust ends just before the cats...that's why is sounds like poop.

Don't think I would want it so loud. Plus I'd be concerned about long term effects on the engine.

I would just do cutouts, that way you have best of both worlds, loud when you want it and quiet when you want it.

Dropped the rear muffler sections (behind the resonator) while I was installing a hitch receiver on my 2011 4.6. Started the car to see what it was like without the rear mufflers. Sounded great! Not loud, still well muffled by only the resonator with a very nice mellow tone. I imagine deleting just the rear muffler, by adding straight pipes back from the resonator would be a great inexpensive upgrade. I see a new project in my future :)

It will sound like crap without mufflers and the drone would be unbearable. This would also be ungodly loud.

Replaced rear mufflers with straight pipe and the original tip welded back on. Tips in factory locations and sounds great! The front resonators provide plenty of muffling and are very free flowing. Car exhaust is barely noticeable unless I hit the gas (the tires are louder than the exhaust, but that's another story). Quieter and better sounding than the $1000 systems I've heard. All for $50, and for another $50 I can put the mufllers back on when I sell. Best bang for the buck I ever spent on a vehicle:D.

Any chance we could get a vid or audio clip?

Damn where did those videos go I really wanted to hear cuz I'm thinking of doing the same on mine.
Here's a 2nd video taken at highway speeds
