  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Took one for a short drive today over a well worn street and a new stretch of interstate that I have driven several times in my M-B. First of all, the V8 did not wow me as much (compared to the V6 I had previously driven) as I thought it would. Car seemed light in the back end and rear end seemed to be hopping around quite a bit. Gas tank was empty and tires seemed to really be pumped up so maybe these were contributing factors. Great car as far as features and build quality but I would want to drive a couple of others before committing to it. My 12 year-old Benz felt pretty satisfying afterwards.

Some people and magazine articles say that the ride of Genesis 4.6 is somewhere between BMW 550 and Lexus LS460. That said, I think the ride of BMW 550 would be for more unbearable if you already feel the Genesis you test drove is harsh.

I know this ride quality and suspension thing are totally subjective, but at least, I want to hear those who experienced both vehicles... If I have enough money, I am gonna equip each car with super sensitive accelerometer and run tests over various kinds of roads...:D I think this is the only way to settle down all those ride quality and suspension issues.

I don't think the average firmness of the suspension is the issue.

The suspension in the Genesis seems to have some strange resonances where the car gets into an uncontrolled bouncy state. I have found one stretch of freeway where I get this effect when going steady at 60 mph and you do not need an accelerometer to see the difference to the car driving right next to you since you are bouncing off your seat ....

Everywhwere else the suspension is just fine and probably just a bit softer than the BMW.

I assume that the people who did the adaption from the Korean suspension to the US version did not do enough testing to get all the dampening figured out correctly so you get this strange effect when you excite the suspension with a sympathetic frequency.

While you were on your stretch of highway cruising did you happen to drop the pedal to the floor then??? Obviously not, because I think you would have changed your comments about the v-8.

The v8 does pretty good off the line and compares well with the v6 but once you punch it at 60 and 70 mph is when you get laid back in the seat!!! I went from 70 to 140 or so in a matter of seconds. The v8 does not stop pulling at any time!

Anywho, just thought I would throw that out there. If you get a chance, drive the car again and really explore the V8!!!! Who cares if the salesman is with you, I didnt and I am sure he had to change his diaper! I test drive cars how I would drive them daily...but...some of us dont.

It seems the dealerships are filling the tires too much. At some point or another SOMEBODY has to tell them to stop doing that. On the other hand, I don't totally blame the tires for the suspension issues. I think for most people, the Genesis is going to feel perfect. For the most picky BMW driver, maybe not.

I am not sure who you addressed you comment to. I own a 4.6 with tech package and love it. Acceleration is amazingly smooth as you describe it.

I would still Hyundai to work out the remaining quirks.

Besides acceleration, were you struck by any other differences between the 6 and 8 cylinder models? Is the quality of the leather noticeably better in the 8 cylinder? How about refinement?

Yes, and yes. And don't forget the 4-piston caliper brakes on the 8 versus 1 on the 6.
