  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello guys

I'm looking to get a new Equus.

Here is my question: Do I get the last 2011 with the 4.6 and ZF trany or do I fork out the aditional $ and get the 5.0 and in house 8 speed.

Has anyone with the R-Speck have anything negative to say about the 8 speed?

Anyone have a problem with the new package?

I can get a good deal on the 4.6 but would love the 5.0.

Please let me know.

Thanks:cool:

What kind of price difference are we talking about?

(The difference in price on the Genesis 4.6 '11 vs. '12 can be around $4k)

I obviously can't comment on long term reliability of the transmission as I've only had the car for 15 days, but so far it is amazing. I have people comment, without prompting, that they could not even feel the transmission shift at all. It does quite well with sensing when you want to downshift and dig in but otherwise keeps the revs low and the fuel economy high.

Turn off the ESC and that 5.0 kicks and spins the tires without even trying. It was amazing to learn how actively the ESC is working to keep traction when you punch it.

Great engine and great transmission in my book. Please take into account, however, that my prior vehicle was by no means a luxury vehicle - so my opinion is a bit tainted.

I'll be getting the final pricing in 2 weeks.
All that they could tell me is that the msrp will be about 1ooo or 2000 higher.
Will let you know

I don't yet own a Genesis, but I did a couple of extended test drives of cars with the 8 speed and I was impressed. I have an '05 Acura TL with a 5 speed auto, and I always thought that was a good transmission. My dad had a Lexus ES that shifted more smoothly, but I sort of discounted that because dynamically everything about that car was so boring and the shifter was slow to downshift.

But the shifts of the 8 speed in normal driving conditions (moderate acceleration) are so smooth that unless you're really paying attention it just feels completely seamless. Nothing else I've driven even comes close.

I opted for the proven ZF tranny and 4.6. The 8 speed and 5.0 have been out a couple of years in Korea, and will probably be fine but the 4.6 and especially the ZF 6 speed have many years of bulletproof reliability. I got nearly $5K off a demo model.

I also have an 800 hp car so maximum power was not a deciding criteria. Luxury, cost, and reliability were my driving factors.

Having said that, I probably will pick up an R-spec someday. Supposedly Hyundai is working on a 460 hp SC version.

With the release of the 2012 Equus so close now in only 3 to 4 weeks I would definately get the 2012 if I were you. The new engine and minor improvements overall make it a no brainer, not to mention moving up one model year for value trade in the future and warrenty. Bummer to have to say to yourself if you don't go for the 2012 the could of should of would of's...

Yes, but that is not counting the significant discount you can get if a Dealer needs to move current stock to make room for the 012's. I also found the downshifts faster in the ZF tranny.

I have always gotten great deals that way. In any event, you can't really go wrong.
