  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

To all that have the r-spec. Does anyone have an annoying clicking noise as the engine idles? I was told it's the way the new GDI engine is. I test drove two and they all sounded the same.

Yes, my R-spec also exhibits that annoying "clicking" sound which I don't notice inside the vehicle with windows up. Should this be cause for alarm?

It's likely the direct injection engine. I've seen Lexus IS-350 owners speak of the same thing.

I kinda figured it was normal since both R-Specs on the lot did the same thing. I dont hear it at all even when the windows are open so Im really not worried. It just sounds weird for a luxury sports sedan, IMHO...

I have not heard the 5.0 GDI, but I'm sure it's a lot better than the 2.0T GDI in the Sonata.
It is for sure a tradeoff of having GDI.

After 600 miles on my new R-Spec I dont notice that clicking noise anymore... :)

i have yet to hear a DI engine not sound like it has noisy lifters at idle..just the nature of the technology.. many tings about the way cars run will be changing fast in the near future. there won't even BE idling cars in a few years lol..

so should I get it? :)

how is it?? please tell us :D

Not trying to jack the thread, but in this video you can hear the engine clicking, or whatever. Skip up to about 5 min and 10 seconds when he opens the hood.

I'm not noticing the clicking noise either now (750 miles). Even when I popped the hood, it really wasn't noticeable. Curious if it's some sort of break-in period or did the dealership not use premium when they filled it up? I've put two tanks of 93 Octane in now:confused:

I have about 250 miles now on my R-spec and I am not noticing the clicking. I have to admit I have not really had the window open much but I have not heard anything to this point that would concern me.

I heard some clicking upon cold startups, especially the first couple of weeks. I have 94 octane in it now and now this sound is quieter, but still noticeable some. My car has 1300km (800mi) on it now.

Hello! I have a 2011 Genesis 4.6 with 26k miles and I also notice the clicking noise while idling, even after the engine has warmed up. This does not sound right for a $50k car. I have taken it to the dealership several times now and they say it's normal, I call BS on that. I will have to say that the service at Round Rock Hyundai is pretty bad. Has anyone found any new info on the clicking yet?

The 4.6 is not a DI engine so your issue most likely something else.

Our '12 4.6 does not click at any time. My spouse "she with the hyper sensitive hearing" rejected the GDI cars because of the clicking sound.

I'm hard of hearing and even I hear the clicking. As mentioned, it's the direct injection.

Yup - I asked the dealer about it when I bought mine and he said it's the DI engine. Doesn't bother me anymore.

I've heard intermittent clicking almost sounding as if a fan blade were hitting a shroud. Comes and goes. Was going to check it out when I do my oil change soon. Does not happen all the time but I've heard it when I pull into the garage.

I come from the Corvette LS motor world. They sound the same way

Old timer once told me "You know its fast when normal sounds broken"
