  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Guys,
I changed the OEM 4300k bulbs to 6000K Philips bulbs (exact specification from OEM) and feel that they are brighter and with slight bluish hue. They look very nice. But , the issue is that alignment is wrong and they are focussed on to the trees. I took it to the dealer again, and they adjusted the alignment and still I feel that they are a little high. The automatic adjustment that happens immediately the head lights are on, is still working just fine. Is adjustment of the beam (low beam headlights ) a big and difficult issue? Is it difficult - because they fix the beam during day time and we can actually check how good it is only in the nights? I don't mind paying the money for the labor- I would like to get it fixed to the factory settings.. Is it too much to ask?
I am appalled that somebody at one dealership suggested to change the whole headlight assembly !!
Any ideas??
Advanced thanks to all those willing to share their two cents..
Thanks a zillion..

were they the same length bulbs as the oem? because if the aftermarket is a little bit longer or shorter that affects the beam...other than that i dont know how to help you.

Merely changing the bulbs will not affect headlight aiming whatsoever. Period.
I take it that you had someone install the bulbs for you. If you installed them yourself you should have seen that they have installment "notches" that must be lined up for correct installation. These bulbs are installed more or less "blind" in that you must do it by feel. You can check alignment by just looking at the bulbs from outside. They should be nicely seated.
I have used many different bulbs over many years - outside dimensions have never varied - always the same.

uhhhhh depends on if you change out the bulbs with exactly the same bulb or not...if they are different in length it absolutely changes the aim.

if you see where the arc (the little circle part in the middle of the bulb) is and its at a different position than oem then your aim will be off. maybe not by much or maybe so much where you wont be able to put them into spec, but they will change.

Please do not spread wrong information.

Thank you guys, I appreciate the responses. They were helpful
The issue is not resolved completely as of yet,
I need to take it to dealer again and armed with the knowledge I got here i will be able to talk to them better.
The bulbs were exact specifications except for the color temperature

Can you tell us your source for the bulbs? This would be helpful. In many cases, aftermarket HID bulbs are a Chinese knockoff and are poorly assembled and have iffy quality. This includes the above mentioned length that is probably different than the OEM bulb, which again mentioned above changes how the light projects. This issue is specific to HID bulbs.

They are PHILIPS bulbs made in Germany D1S 6000 K HID bulbs
