  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 15 3.8 Ultimate 60K service is coming up, I was quoted $609 from the dealer, I read that CPO warranty does not cover any routine service, does that sound like a good price, what did you pay ?, I just went through the maintenace guide and did not see anything about transmission flush at 60K service, although the csr mention that it is included and is the most expensive item, Am I missing something, or a transmission flush is not necessary, please advise, thanks.

Depends on driving conditions. I don't have the 2015 manual, but this is from my 2018 manual. Of course the dealer is looking at making a buck too.

Normal Maintenance Schedule (Lambda 3.8 GDI/Tau 5.0 GDI) (CONT.)

Automatic transaxle fluid No check, No service required

Maintenance Under Severe Usage Conditions (Lambda 3.8 GDI/Tau 5.0 GDI)
The following items must be serviced more frequently on cars normally used under severe driving conditions. Refer
to the chart below for the appropriate maintenance intervals.

Automatic transaxle fluid R Every 60,000 miles (96,000 km) A, C, D, E, F, G, H, I

Severe driving conditions
A- Repeatedly driving short distance of less than 5 miles (8 km)
in normal temperature or less than 10 miles (16 km) in freezing
temperature
B- Extensive engine idling or low speed driving for long distances
C-Driving on rough, dusty, muddy, unpaved, graveled or saltspread
roads
D-Driving in areas using salt or other corrosive materials or in
very cold weather
E-Driving in heavy dust condition
F - Driving in heavy traffic area
G- Driving on uphill, downhill, or mountain road repeatedly
H-Towing a Trailer, or using a camper, or roof rack
I -Driving as a patrol car, taxi, other commercial use or vehicle
towing
J - Driving over 106 mph (170 km/h)
K-Frequently driving in stop-and-go conditions

I am disqualify from the Severe driving condition , because none of the above, applies to me, 84 mph is my top speed.

I have a couple questions about the qualifications for Severe Usage, particularly "D-Driving in areas using salt or other corrosive materials or in
very cold weather".
1. what is meant by "very cold weather" ?
2. does limited use in "areas using salt or other corrosive materials or in very cold weather" still qualify me for Severe Usage maintenance
I live in Western New York state where:
- for a period of time the temperature can dip below freezing from November to April.
- We rarely see temperatures below 20 F.
- During those 6 months we can see snow fall during which the local/state DOT will spread salt on the roads.
- Also, my 2016 Genesis (CPO) is in an attached garage overnight which is never below freezing.
- Being retired, I have no daily commute, thus I have no requirement to drive in the most severe winter weather.
Thanks!!
Bill

Low temperatures are tougher on the engine, especially short trip where the oil is not heated and moisture is more likely to build over time. If you drive 40 miles to work every day, little concern, but if you go 2 miles twice a week, it is not getting up to temperature.

I'd not be concerned about actual temperature as much as the use of salt on the roads. Sounds like you see little of it though.

I'd split the difference between the designation but time is a factor too. I'd go for oil changes at least twice a year even with low miles after the winter.

Thanks EdP.
I use Red Line 5w30 full synthetic for 20+ years now, ever since my BMW days when the independent BMW repair shops recommended Red Line in the Tech Talk columns of Roundel, at 15,000 mi intervals, even for the cars they serviced under warranty.
I have used the 7,500 mi oil change intervals in my 2016 3.8 L AWD Ultimate Genesis, always bring my own oil to the dealer.
- But I agree, it takes a long time to heat up 7.3 qts of oil to the of boiling off condensation. I tell anyone who will listen that short trips will
kill a car.

- What are your feelings about the transmission ATF change at 60,000 mi. and the coolant flush my local dealer says I need. I'm aware most if not all dealers are trying to maximize profits on service
Thanks!!
Bill

... transmission ATF change at 60,000 mi. and the coolant flush my local dealer says I need. ...
Those two things, I would definitely do. To me, the transmission fluid exchange is difficult and messy enough to just pay someone to do, and I would hope that the dealer has the best chance of doing it correctly with the correct fluid.
The coolant change, I would do myself as that is not difficult. The additives in the coolant do wear out over time.

My owners manual has no requirement for coolant replacement until 120,000 mi. even under severe driving conditions.
Does the dealer know something about coolant replacement that Hyundai does not?

Thanks EdP.

At first, replace at 120,000 miles (192,000 km) or 10 years :

Automatic transaxle fluid R Every 60,000 miles (96,000 km)
after that, replace every 30,000 miles (48,000 km) or 24 months

Transmissions are expensive to it would be prudent to change the fluid. It can break down over time.

Just like Ed said, transmission fluid changes are cheap...transmissions aren't. DO NOT FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION. Only drain the old fluid and refill it. At the next service (120,000), replace the trans pan (as the filter is built into it). But only drain the refill. Never flush a transmission. If you have any type of extended warranty, only use Hyundai fluid (and make sure the dealer does too).

I bought the car with Hyundai CPO and what I thought was a CPO Wrap, but was Hyundai CPO and a 3rd party (not quite) bumper to bumper 100K extended warranty. My Hyundai dealer will be doing the transmission service. They call it a fluid replacement.

What is good, if the trans dies a month later they have no excuse not to cover it since you did the required maintenance.
