If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey all,

Just did a service with the dealer yesterday (oil change). They are recommending that I get the service 4 package next which includes the following:

-Oil change
-Cabin air filter
-Coolant change
-Tire rotation (will not be getting as I do this myself with changing of the seasons.)
-Brake inspection and service
-Timing chain replacement.

It's pretty expensive. Are you guys replacing your timing chain around this mileage?

Also, as of Sept. 20/17, there is a Tech bulletin from Hyundai Auto Canada Corp saying to add Fuel system cleaner to the maintenance schedule. Required for all gasoline engines MY2010+. Fuel cleaner part number is 084NA-26004.

Sounds like they want you to use the Profitability Enhancement Package. I may have missed it, but never saw a schedule for the timing chain replacement. Perhaps they mean the serpentine belt?

Cabin filter is a 5 minute job to DIY. Fuel system cleaner used to be recommended if you did not use top tier gas but that may have changed.

Timing chains are not a scheduled replaced item. I believe that somehow you got incorrect information about the timing chain being part of the service package. Timing chains usually last the life of the engine if the engine oil is properly changed so that the chain and it's guides stay lubricated.

If you don't use tier 1 gasoline, add Techron detergent to your gas tank every few months.

Wish someone would define top tier fuel,I use 87octane unleaded from Sams Club and my 3.8 seems to run just fine,on the other hand have barely 12000 mi. On my 2016 Ultimate.

Top Tier is a fuel with certain additives that help keep the engine clean. Most major brands qualify.

The best way to determine if your engine is really running good with 87 octane from a non-top tier gas station is to compare it to an engine that has been using 91 octane or better gas from a top tier gas station.
My opinion is that most drivers will think their engines are running fine unless they has something to compare it against.

I only have used 93 octane in any of my last few cars that I owned, many were luxury models from Mercedes and Infiniti which required premium gas. Those engines ran very smooth to the point that you could not tell that that car was idling. Fast forward, my Genesis was running like many cheaper cars that I have used as rental cars or rode in when I test drove it.

My 2015 Genesis had a noticeable idle that my old car that I trade-in did not have. The salesperson did me "favor" and filled up my Genesis with 87 octane during our test drive and topped it off when I purchased the car. The salesperson selling point was that the V8 engine can run on 87 octane, which I agree is fine for when you have no choice but not my octane to use on the regular. The rough idle went away after about two tanks of 93 octane. Now my Genesis runs as smooth as the other cars I have owned.

My point is that I would have never known that my Genesis engine actually ran rougher on 87 octane if I did not have a base comparison to know any better. If I would have traded in a less refined car then the Genesis slight idling roughness would probably have gone unnoticed and I would have not known any better and think the car runs great on regular gas when if fact it does not.

Yah it specifies timing chain or timing belt, in this case, timing chain. Seems to be a cross model recommendation. Cabin filter is done now as well so I wont be needing that one either.

Timing belts should be replaced at about that miles. Timing chain is good usually forever. Genesis engines don't have timing belts. They are fairly common on smaller engines though.

Some dealers have their own service recommendations designed to enhance profits. Wax the hubcaps and dust the taillight bulbs and anything else they can think of to bleed money from you.

I regularly fill up my 5.0 with 87, and enjoy noting the savings every fill up. Occasionally run a tank of 93 when the cost difference is reasonable, but never notice much if any difference. No issues and always use top tier gas.

And yeah sounds like the dealer thinks they caught a Live One...
