  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi All - Just got my 3.8 Genesis a couple days ago and have a couple questions:
1) the manual says that a Hyundai cord is required to use an iPad, etc. Is this really true or can I just use the Apple cord? Also, in this vein, does anyone know the power specs on the car's USB port? The iPad2 requires 2.1 amps to properly charge; 2) My wife's iPhone connected right up to the car's Bluetooth but my Android Nexus One will "see" the Genesis Bluetooth and "pair" but doesn't prompt for the password, so, of course, the connection never happens. Suggestions?

Thanks!

1. I don't think you have to use the Hyundai cord. 2. re: the phone, check the manual of your phone. We had a similar problem with my wife's blackberry. the password screen did not stay on long enough to enter the password. Also, Check for a software update for your phone.

Thanks for the reply. A special Hyundai cord didn't make any sense unless there was something non-standard about the Genesis USB port. Any idea where to look to determine the USB port power specs?

With regard to the phone, it has the latest available OS update and the manual didn't seem to offer any help. Given that my wife's iPhone works, I've got to assume that there is an incompatibility between the car's BT and the Nexus One's implementation of BT Maybe something is missing in the phone's bluetooth stack...

How did you get the Blackberry to work?

How did you get the Blackberry to work?

Got another blackberry and it paired easily. The phone was also dropping calls and the replacement did not and does not.

Got another blackberry

lol...Blackberry sure has had some ups and downs.

I'm not ready to give my phone up yet. If I can get it to pair with the car great, but no big whoop if I can't!

Thanks for the help.

The reason you need the special cord to run your iPod is so that you can use all of the radio control buttons on the steering wheel and the menu on the NAV screen. Otherwise, if you simply use the USB Apple connector all you will do is charge your iPod/iPad. If you run a male to male connector from the earphone jack on your iPod/iPad to the female connector in the arm rest console, you will get to listen to your music, but must control it from your iPod/iPad.

If you use the special connector, available online for less than $10 (Kia brand will work also) you can charge your device and listen to your music all through the controls in your car.

Well worth the money IMHO.:D

I have a 2011, and a regular Apple USB/Ipad/Iphone cable did not work.

Got the special cable from Amazon for cheap and it works like a charm.

I have not tried plugging in my Ipad however, so I don't know if it has enough voltage to charge it. My guess would be no.
