  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just a couple questions I have.

-Why does the Genesis not have remote start?
-Are all the windows automatic? (tap the button goes all the way up or down) Like on the Saab 95
-What is the top speed of the 2010 v8 before the governor kicks in?
-Will the front parking assist bark if you creep up to much to another car at a light?
-Can you play video from a ipod or usb drive? How well does it play DVDs? Can you stream bluetooth video or upload pictures/music via bluetooth? Can the hard drive copy a disk?
-How far do the front seats lay back? I like to take naps.
-Why does the 2011 sonata have a better nav system?
-Are the complaints in the complaints thread common? The thread makes the car seem poorly made and they all have electrical issues.

What is the best place to buy a used genesis? If I go to a dealership, can they search and find one for me? I am also worried about what kind of warranty I would get with a used car.

thank you. I am coming closer to the end of my search. I don't want to spend more than 30k, so my search is coming down to a 2010 V8 or buick lacrosse. I have looked at other cars, but they are usually out of my price range even when used. It disappoints me that my dealership wont let me test drive their genesis anymore. It is their only one and I am not going to buy it because I want a used one. What should I do about this because I want to drive it more.

-Why does the Genesis not have remote start?
Not sure, it is possible to add it, but not nearly as trivial as with other cars.

-Are all the windows automatic?
Yes, push it down or up all the way and the window will open or close fully.

-What is the top speed of the 2010 v8 before the governor kicks in?
I feel like I read 120, but I could be wrong. It is over 100 for sure, plenty fast for road driving.

-Will the front parking assist bark if you creep up to much to another car at a light?
Yes, but the alarm is interior only

-Can you play video from a ipod or usb drive? How well does it play DVDs? Can you stream bluetooth video or upload pictures/music via bluetooth? Can the hard drive copy a disk?
You can play video, but only while parked. I believe there is a device that gets around this, but it costs a few hundred dollars. No bluetooth streaming. The hard drive is not usable, it is for maps, software only.

-How far do the front seats lay back? I like to take naps.
Pretty far?

-Why does the 2011 sonata have a better nav system?
Because it is a newer design.

-Are the complaints in the complaints thread common? The thread makes the car seem poorly made and they all have electrical issues.
Common in that if you have a problem, it is likely to be one of those issues. I have had no real problems with mine.

No good answer for the first question. A dealer should be able to search for used cars at other dealers they are associated with. Try cars.com or carmax. Do your research on warranties, there are many piss poor ones out there, and a few good ones.

Find a used one somewhere, they will let you drive it.

Nice job there, Gambler!

Max: Seems to me that you might be looking for something with more toys - perhaps one of those new 2011 Ford Edge Sports? They have a lot of the features you're looking for, I think. I was looking at that particular car, actually. Unfortunately, that too might be a tad out of your price range. Sonata isn't... and if you can wait a few months, perhaps the new 2012 Azera might be just the ticket for you.

PS - How is Trent Steele doing these days?

On mine, only the front windows (2009 V6).

Actually I'm not sure they all do it. I really ever only raise or lower the front windows. At least those 2 both do it.

My biggest frustration is that people read about the problems your car could POSSIBLY have. I stay far away from the concerns section. If you have a problem, you have America's BEST warranty... Call a dealer. All cars have problems. Period. Extended warranty? National, Fidelity, or LandCar. I prefer Landcar working from Larry H Miller dealerships... But you want the best package they offer. Note: ALL warranties don't warrant fluids, glass, connectors, clamps or any wearing components. Best warranty is one that covers hoses... Don't be hesitant to buy this car... I don't forsee any major issues arrising with these vehicles. If you have any dealer specific questions, please email me (below is my email).

All cars have problems. Period.

All cars have problems, yes, but sometimes of very different magnitude.

e.g. my dad's Genesis had the XM radio dying (which I think is the same as the voice recognition problem) problem (woohoo, requires changing the amp, but you can drive the car and listen to FM/iPod/CD while waiting for the dealer to get a new amp from Korea), while it seems all/most early-production Audi Q5 3.2s have water pumps that fail and puke coolant all over the place within the first 10-15K kms (hope you're close to home, that it's during your dealer's business hours and that your dealer has a good loaner policy).

I certainly do not think a new car should have any issues that require towing (and multiple-day downtime) within the warranty period...

It's ~149MPH. This is because the stock tires are only V rated.

It's also because no one in their right mind needs to go any where near that fast on public roads.

-What is the top speed of the 2010 v8 before the governor kicks in?

I don't know about the governor, but the state police kick in at 90 MPH or so.

-Will the front parking assist bark if you creep up to much to another car at a light?

No barking, but it does chirp.

-How far do the front seats lay back? I like to take naps.

I prefer to sleep sitting up while driving.

-Are the complaints in the complaints thread common? The thread makes the car seem poorly made and they all have electrical issues.

In the complaints thread, complaints are far more comment than praise.

(Sorry, couldn't resist. Good luck with your search.)

Why does the Genesis not have remote start?
I'm having my SmartStart put in next week - no loss of a keyfob AND remote start via my Android phone or PC. :D

Will the front parking assist bark if you creep up to much to another car at a light?
Yes, and at a drive through. I tend to turn it off in these situations since it's a quick on-off.

All the way to the back seat. The headrest is a little too stiff for comfortable car napping, though, so keep a pillow on hand!

15,000 miles in 9 months and 0 major issues. A tire sidewall bubble that was replaced under warranty, 2 oil changes (go synthetic!) and a stuck button on my DIS were the only problems. I'm scheduled to have the DIS button repaired next week.

I love this car.

It is indeed only the front 2 windows that are "auto", the back 2 you have to do manually.

You pulled that one deep out of the well...
You don't cuddle with Max Power. You strap yourself in and feel the G's!

HAHAHAAHAH AWESOME. Love that episode - definitely one of my favorites.

Just regarding the top speed question; the v8 is I believe limited at 155 and the v6 around 120; not sure why the different limits between the two but the numbers ive seen have been around there.

You are correct, the top speed of the v8 is 155 mph electronically limited. I read an article online that when the limit electonics are disabled that the top speed is 176mph. I don't know how they disabled the limit control.

I'm pretty sure they set the speed limiter based on tires. the V8 comes with V rated tires which they set the limit at 149MPH and the V6 comes with H rated which they would set the speed limit to 130MPH. Otherwise some idiot would sue them when the tires gave out at high speed.
