  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys new owner here,

Just had a question about your cars. I swear when I first bought my car I couldn’t really hear the engine or the turbos spooling. But just recently I feel like I can hear the turbos a lot louder? Almost seems like a higher pitch whirring noise. Am I just going crazy and it’s always been there? (Has a WRX in the past and never heard the turbos this loud).

I hear ya (no pun intended). When I first started driving my car I never really heard the turbos spooling. Now I hear it very clearly, but haven't put on any mods. Not sure if I just didn't notice at first, or if it's actually gotten louder?

Either way, I think it sounds cool.

Same for me, I've been hearing my turbos more clearly whereas didn't hear a thing when it was brand new. I think I started hearing it around 3-4k miles in.

Is it an annoying sound?

Just a pleasing subdued turbo whine.

How many miles are you at? I still can't hear anything (and it's a bit disappointing lol).

I'm at 3,400 miles. I can't remember when I started hearing it - maybe when I hit 2000? I don't know. I really think I just became more aware of it, and it was there all along.

I just hit 5k miles. I usually hear it once I go past 4k rpm so maybe do a couple launches

I’ve noticed I’m hearing it really loudly during a cold start. Then once it warms up it goes away. And I’m only at 600 miles. I’d say it’s about as loud as the radio when the volume is on 3?

Nothing quite like the sound of a malfunctioning turbo!

This....

....is substantially different than what I'm hearing.

What I hear on my car is perfectly normal turbo spool from 2 tiny turbos when flooring it.

Hahaha it really wasn’t that bad at first. It really just sounded like the turbo on my wrx at first. But then it got worse... a lot worse... 😅

Based on Todd's recent observation about the airbox to turbo intake elbow coming off, anyone else with turbo noise seeing the same thing? I would check but I am currently 3000 miles away from my car for the week.
