  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

In reading the NHTSA Safety Recall Report 21V-160 there seems to be some conflicting information. In one section it says the problem can occur wether parked or if you are driving. (I'm not going to possibly endanger someone while there is a possibility of fire while driving) In another section it says "Customers can continue driving these vehicles. I have tried to get an answer from both Genesis and NHTSA, as to if it is really safe to drive the vehicle, but no luck. Anybody got a clue?

It seems that this has happened to very few cars. You have a much greater chance of someone running into you (or you them) than your car catching fire while driving or parked.

With my luck this is the one lottery I’ll win. I’m told replacing the ABS module fuse with one of a lower amperage will prevent the chance of a fire. Unfortunately, my dealer’s service manager doesn’t know the size or location of the fuse. Genesis’s national customer service doesn’t know either and both refuse to escalate. I think I’m going to go back to American. I miss not having a convertible.

You don't have to go back to American for a convertible. The Rolls Royce Dawn is quite nice.

There's always Bentley.

2/95,000 aren't what I would call winning odds. And only 2 Genesis have caught fire because of this issue globally. Switching brands won't prevent you from being struck with a recall for potentially life-threatening issues, no matter how good you perceive the brand to be.

2 out of 95k is about as proactive as you can get.

Compare that with years and years GM takes to even acknowledge there are issues (ie dexcool issues, 3.6L v6 timing chain issues, 6 speed 6t70 transmission clutch plate). And then only after class action suites is there any remedy.

The fuses are located in the fuse box in the engine compartment. I believe the 40A fuses in question are labeled VDC/ESC which controls ABS. The fix for other Hyundai cars with the ABS recall equipped with 40A delay fuses are 25A fuses delay I believe, however I am not certain what the Genesis will receive.

Here is what I do when my car is parked in my garage. I pull out the two 40A fuses until I drive my car and then I reinstall the fuses. Pretty easy to do; so I will do this until Hyundai sort the issue out or make known the new fuse size.

The two bottom green 40A fuses is what I remove labeled VDC/ESC.

Well, I guess it is more official now. The Genesis owner's site just popped up a notice about the recall (it did not do this yesterday or before). It suggests that I should schedule to have this taken care of immediately, including a link to do so. The link does not work, and the details on the recall still say "REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE." It doesn't seem to say anything about not parking near or in structures. In my case, it is Recall 006G.

I checked for recalls on this issue

Genesis is supposed to put out an official recall notice in early May.
It involves a fuse replacement - seems like small potatoes -- We'll see

Way off topic - but probably the emergency brake is on
