If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I find that my system sporadically changes the mode settings and a lot of times will be stuck on auto ....... Has anyone else seen this ....If memory serves me correct I think the system has some sorts of auto humidity feature .... Just curious if anyone else has seen this ?

This is from page 4-90 of my 2013 R-Spec owner's manual:

Automatic heating and air conditioning
1. Press the AUTO button.
The modes, fan speeds, air intake and
air-conditioning will be controlled automatically
according to the temperature setting.

I live in S. Florida and I keep my A/C control set to AUTO all the time. It works great. I often wonder why they include heated seats in cars sold in S. FL.

For one... I've never had that issue.

It's a standard feature on all Genesis sedans. Do you expect them to build a special version just for South Florida? That would cost them more than just including it as standard equipment on all versions.

^ Fer gawd's sake, the guy was making a joke.

I think I figured it out .... Reading the manual it's the auto defogger kicking in and seems it overrides any manual setting .

I don't think it was a joke. In the "old" days (at least for American cars) there were no trim levels and a customer (or dealer) ordered whichever combination of options they wanted, so maybe that is what he was thinking.

Apparently you did not live there when it was snowing up in Jacksonville. ;) I was living just outside of Daytona Beach at the time when everything froze and sure wish I would have had heated seats then. All of the orange groves froze and were lost that year, back around '84. I'm sure it was just as cold farther south. ;)

To the poster. I too have te same thing happen. The climate control "automatically" senses the humidity and over rides the manual setting when you have the AC compressor turned off. Sometimes it is legit to prevent fogging of the window.

However. I hate this too... At times I want to control this myself, period. A true North Korean communist "we know what is better for you" designer of the HVAC system at work. :)

I like to run here in the Midwest with the HVAC in auto mode for fan and distribution, but the AC compressor off when the temps are ok for this. Which happens a bunch. And one reason why my fun activity of hyper mile strategy gets me over 30MPG on highway under 77mph. It cuts about .5 MPG or more running the compressor all the time. Plus, less wear and tear on it (just in case I keep this in the family way over the 100k miles).

So, I get your question. Hope this helps.

I think Mr. Chettal is rolling his eyes about your sense of humor. Besides, I doubt anybody here has ever been behind the wheel of car that didn't have a heater, unless it was a very old antique, or an off-roadie, or racing vehicle.

It happened to me twice. None of the AC buttons worked at that moment. I don't remember what I did to get manual mode back.

After my Navy service ended in 1966 I went to work for Pacific Bell in CA. Those cheap bastards ordered their company service trucks without heaters (and, of course, without A/C as well). The heater was something like a $50 option at that time and was an absolute necessity in Northern CA but it wasn't until heaters were made standard on all vehicles that we got them.

I can still remember riding from the shop up to the customer location (an Air Force base) in the early morning where the boss was driving and leaning out the open window (brrrrrrrr) to wipe the frost off the windshield.

He was talking about heated seats, not heaters. All cars have heaters, simply because they run off the engine heat. I remember years ago when I lived in FL I was told that if my engine overheated, to turn on the heater full blast, because it acts as a radiator.

So I don't think Mr. Chettal was joking. It makes perfectly logical sense to someone from South FL to not order heated seats if it were a separately order-able item, and not a part of trim level (or standard equipment).

My bad. Should have re-read his post.

Still, I'm sure Mr. C understands that even south Floridians travel up to north FL sometimes. And, yes, I have been in Palm Beach, FL when temps were well below freezing. As a matter of fact, we watched the Space Shuttle launch from the beach at Palm Beach on one of those cold nights. Thankfully, it was not the Challenger. Strangely, this cold snap was in late May!

I have. My first NEW car, a 1967 Mustang, accessories and options were 'a la carte' so I had the dealer remove the heater to save a few bucks. I had just been discharged from the Army, didn't have much money and only a promise of a job. Growing up in S Fla, there were only 2 or 3 times I wished the Mustang had a heater.

That must have been the year I was in Tampa around Christmas. It was 25 F during the day. Since most everyone in FL uses electric heat (since heat is only rarely needed indoors), the power company was overloaded, and had to cycle the power on and off every few hours or so, so they could rotate the places that got electricity, making matters even much worse.

You should have bought a '67 Rambler American like I did. Reclining front seats, radio and heater. Now, who did better at the drive-in theaters, you in your "sports car," or me with those reclining seats?

But seriously, you didn't expect Hyundai to delete heated seats in your car 'cause you live in FL. Or, did you?

I made out just fine in the back seat of my '67 Mustang at the drive-in theater. With the front seat backs folded forward there was plenty of room.

And, I didn't expect the heated seats to be deleted, but it sure as hell would have been nice as an option. One size does not always fit all. I would have preferred cooling for both front seats instead.

That would have to have been '65 & '66 when I was freezing my ass off in the US Army on the DMZ in S. Korea. No heated seats then either - but I survived. :D

Exactly the problem I have with my 2012 model. It's a stupid design. If you want more fresh air flowing in these high humidity conditions, YOU CAN'T HAVE IT!
One way to partially defeat this automatic mode is to toggle the AC and OFF switches and then toggle the AUTO and OFF switches. Works sometimes but by now you've driven off the road!
