  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone else feel that Hyundai's claimed 0-60 acceleration time is very optimistic for the 4.6 V8? That figure is 5.3 sec, but I can only find 1 magazine which achieved it:

5.3 car and driver
5.5 motor trend
5.5 road and track
5.9 inside line
6.2 consumer reports
6.3 automobile

In fact, several sources say that the non-GDI V6 is almost as fast, which suggests that the GDI V6 might be just as fast.

I have no problems with my V8 power, as I bought it mainly for its refined, quiet performance rather than brute power, but I don't like false advertising, and I think Hyundai is fudging the numbers, just like how it's stating an optimistic HP of 385.

I did not realize Hyundai actually made the claim of 5.3 sec 0-60! Assuming Hyundai made the 5.3 sec claim, it can not be false advertising if at least one major car review magazine can duplicate the number.

In my 2009 Hyundai Genesis brochure Hyundai claims 5.7 to 60. It's a reasonable claim.

This is somewhat non-scientific but if the average of the above 0-60 times is taken, it comes out to be 5.78 sec. That is pretty close to that 5.7 sec in the brochure.

Sounds reasonable. Any way you cut it. <6 seconds for a 4k pound barge is very fast. The ability for you to legally use all that power is pretty limited. That is why I believe for the average consumer the 3.8 GDI is probably your best bet. For speed merchants the 4.6 or 5.0.

I find the acceleration brisk, but you'd better be ready to manually shift when you need that power immediately. The automatic transmission takes forever to kick it down, making it feel glacial.

i don't think there's a significant acceleration difference between the 3.8 GDI and 4.6.
therefore, if you want a clear advantage, you need the 5.0 GDI.

yes, i think 5.78 sec is a reasonable figure.
however, i think a typical owner will most likely get Consumer Report's result, 6.2 sec.
i simply trust CR over the car mags, as CR buys cars from car dealers, just like we do. the car magazines, on the other hand, get free cars, probably cherry picked, from Hyundai. if i were Hyundai, i would find an especially fine performing sample to give to the journalists.

lots of variables in play....temperature, wind, altitude, fuel, driver, track, tires, timer, vehicle break in

its a plenty fast car in the luxury sport cruiser segment. Go run a few quarters and tell us how your car does! Video is always fun to watch ;)
