  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone have some general notes on how often they notice their active shutters in the front grill to be open vs closed? I’ve never seen mine closed which I’m beginning to question - especially when it’s quite cold or just parked. No errors have ever come up on the dash, and battery seems to precondition properly en route to chargers.

This is a common question. You’d need a way to view the front of the vehicle while driving to confirm operation. As it’s intended to reduce drag, it should only need to close when the car is at speed.

Thanks Looney,

I bring it up because there are a lot of Ioniq 5s and 6s in my area, and more often than not I see their shutters closed even when parked and driving at slow speed. Seems like theirs would be following the same logic and controls for the platform, but maybe not?

My Mach-E often had the shutters open, even in the driveway with the AC on or while charging. Sounds like we need to mount a GoPro. I have an old one maybe I can rig it up.

Same question, and I've only ever seen or heard mine operate when I plug it in. A moment after I plug the car in, I hear the motor on the shutters operating, and I was able to confirm that they close and then re-open...not sure why they would do this on plug-in, but worried they're not working properly. I've never seen them closed otherwise, nomatter if it was -5 F this past winter or 85 F now. Additionally, I would feel better if the shutters were closed going through a car wash (soap/wax/etc... spraying into those open shutters, but they are indeed open then too.

Any other info regarding would be greatly appreciated.

On my GV60 I can only see the blinds closed when the engine is running. This creates difficulties when washing the car - you have to start the engine to wash the blinds. I also think that they open when driving if you need to cool the motor and battery.

The purpose of the shutters is to reduce aerodynamic drag while the car is at speed. Observations of them while the car is stationary or moving at low speed are of little use when trying to assess their proper function.
If anything, your comment that the shutters move briefly when the car is plugged in should be a positive sign as it would suggest that the motors handling the task are functional.

If you're saying your shutters close (AKA AAF (Active Air Flaps)) when you turn your GV60 on, then mine are definitely faulty as they are never closed no matter the on/off state, temperature, etc... They open and close quickly upon initial plug-in, but that's it.

My lowly Golf has aero shutters. They are closed most of the time and only open if temperatures require more air for engine cooling.

I noticed that when the temperature is hot, when the engine is started, the blinds close and open immediately. I think this is for additional cooling of the radiator
