  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2014 R-Spec. I've never had adaptive cruise before so just curious as to how it functions when it is Not messing up. My cruise most of the time now displays the error light meaning the bumper sensor is on its way out. When it does work, and I approach a vehicle, it more or less jambs the brake harder than necessary. It doesn't just slow down, it jambs on the brake and is pretty darn slow to speed back up. So mine is almost done, but how Should it perform though? Do your cars slow first and then perhaps brake if necessary, or just brake immediately?

The amount of braking depends on the speed differential.

Keep in mind, it is a computer with a sensor. Once it senses a car in front it will react. You, however, may see that gap getting smaller or the brake lights two cars ahead so your brain will react by letting off the gas so the brake jamming is not needed. Your brain and driving experience will by far out perform the computer.

Don't know about your model but the newer ones have settings for the reaction and speed resumption but it is typically not as fast as you would do manually.

I have a 2014. It has three distance settings. I tried each one. It jammed on the brake each time and too hard IMO for the circumstance. I understand what you said exactly but still wonder if it is actually working as it should. I’m sure the car behind me didn’t appreciate my car slamming the brake several times. Probably thought I was trying to tell him to stay away from me. I really wish it could be disabled because you’re correct, I can do a much better unnoticeable adjustment in speed.

What do you mean, disabled? You mean used as a normal cruise control without radar braking? Your wish was granted a very long time ago. From your owner's manual....

Wrong car. However, I will try the holding down the Distance button on the Smart Cruise and see if it does anything to change from smart to normal. Pretty sure it was one of the first things I tried when I got my car and no matter what I couldn't turn off the Smart Cruise (possible I did the wrong sequence). Maybe I need to activate cruise first (as it shows in the manual you provided even though it's for a different generation of Genesis) and then disable from there. I'll report back.

I thought that I read it couldn’t be disabled but I certainly give it a try. Thanks!

That is from the 2014 owner's manual. I thought you said you had a 2014?

Well, I tried it. Won't disable. Maybe 2014 is different, pretty sure it's the same setup though.

I wonder if it was a mid-year change. I found another 2014 owner's manual online that doesn't show this feature. For sure, it doesn't seem to be on any 2013 or older. It looks like this disable feature is now gone for the 2021 too.
