Adaptive cruise module

Has anyone successfully replaced their cruise control module (96400-3m200) with a used or part off of a salvage vehicle? Mine is apparently out, no smart cruise control and the VMS system is down. The dealer quoted me $5800 and I have found some new online for $3400 but that is still crazy high. I've found some used for sale much cheaper but I still have unanswered questions about install and programming of the module. Any help is appreciated.

The scary part of so many new cars is the price of repairs to their electronic do-dad's. The electronic stuff fails all too often on many cars------and the extended warranties rarely cover the stuff either.

Low volume cars often don't get the same level of pre-production testing-------------I hope I don't regret buying a Ford after I pass the 3 year, 36,000 mile coverage that exists on the electronic stuff.

Did you ever get this issue resolved, if so how and what route did u take.
