  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Considering an add-on remote start system for my G80 and wondering what others have gone with, and why.

Seems Viper and Compustar are popular brands. Best Buy seems to carry them and will install them.

Features mentioned include -
  • Smartphone integration - an app to control it
  • Inclusion of security / alarm features, we don't need as the car already has an alarm
  • Range from a couple hundred feet to unlimited - some go 1,000 feet, another 6,000
  • I don't want to carry a 2nd fob, so the fob should replace OEM fob functions - lock, unlock, pop trunk, start alarm sound
  • Some have 2-way communications, for feedback like is the car running, did it start, did it unlock or lock
  • Most all recommend professional installation and I'm fine with that.
Or, I pay $99/year to Genesis for the OEM "Remote" package.

Thanks for the feedback.

Had the Computstar installed locally. They have three versions, I got the middle one.
It does have a small fob for the start button. You push and hold and the LED goes from amber to green so you know signal received. 30000 foot range.

Why did I choose that one? It gives me some feedback and I don't have to fart around with my phone. There were some spots I wanted to start in the past but was no cell service so that sucked on a hot day.

There is a visible receiver on the windshield up next to the mirror. Does not bother me and I don't really notice it. About half the time with Hyundai /Genesis cars when you hit the brake pedal it will stop and you have to restart.

Overall, I'm happy with it and it works 100% vs Connects Services at 80% at best. Faster, like instant too. I paid for the service for a couple of years and now wish I did this sooner.

I've been reading up on these things for hours. Some say they can program your OEM fob to work. Not sure that's possible without having a fob that did this in the first place.

Don't mind getting a new fob, the OEM fob is bulky and heavy. But what if I need the OEM door key? Guess I could remove that from the fob and carry it on my keyring.

So you have a device/antenna on your windshield? I was hoping it would use the OEM hardware, but that all needs Connected Services electronics.

When you remote start your car, do the lights flash like they do with the OEM starter?

My lights go on but do not flash. Barely noticeable and do not attract attention for a half mile. .

I have the Compustar as well.
I use my OEM remote.
Press Lock 3 times and it starts. 3 more times and it turns off.
I actually prefer to use the Drone Mobile app though.
Is easier and quieter, without the chirps from hitting Lock.
I also like the status screen of the app.
My lights come on when it remotes start. I specifically asked them to not have the hazards come on.
I opted for the perimeter alarm because (at least on my 2017) the alarm only sounds if the doors open.
Nothing if you break the window!
Now, a forceful tap will give a warning chirp.
A more forceful one or break will sound the full alarm, which is louder and more varied than the OEM alarm.

Compustar has a few different models. Your is the next up from mine.

Using the fob is good instead of another but I didn't like the idea of using the app and paying a subscription for it. In some locations I've has no cell service. I have the 1900

Hello there, if you push the brake pedal and the start button together at the same time after getting in the car it will not turn off on you. Give it a try. ✌🏼

Gave it a try. Works well. I passed the information to the installer so he can tell new customers if he gets any.

Thanks for the tip, much appreciated.
