  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A baffling situation...My dipstick showed 1/2 qt low at 3000 miles since the last oil change, which I consider normal. So I added 1/2 qt of 5w-20 non-synthetic oil which is what I always use and the dealer uses it for my oil changes. I let it set overnight and then the dipstick registered 2/3 of a quart low (?1?) So I added another 1/3 quart, let it set overnight and now it registers 3/4 of a quart low. How can this keep going in the wrong direction?? At this rate, if I keep adding oil, I will have none in the engine!! ;-)

Forgot to add that the oil is measured in the same parking location each time and confirmed level where the car sets.

Thanks for the oil. I have to do a change on my car so every night i take a little from yours. Didn't think you'd notice this quick. I need two more quarts so keep checking a few more days.

At least that would be a logical reason for what I'm seeing!
It's not that the car is leaking oil. If I don't add oil and check it, the level on the dipstick shows no change. Very strange...

At least that would be an explanation! A puzzling situation.

Yes, checked for any oil leak. Also, the oil level does not go down - unless I add oil. I just checked a few minutes ago and the oil level is now UP about 1/3 qt.

Reminds me of a story from years ago. A woman bought a Volkswagen and was bragging how good the gas mileage was and how smart she was to buy a car like that. Her co-workers would add a little gas every day or two and she continued to brag. After a couple of weeks they stopped. She never bragged again.

Don't know if the story is true but I would have been a part of the group just for laughs.

That was an old Tim Conway joke, remember hearing it about 30 years ago.....
