  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone had any success with any additives in improving the shift in the transmission ?

I happened to be reading old threads the other day and came across a post regarding that & calling for a product called Lubeguard. Looks like you have a G1 - have you changed the trans fluid at all yet? Rear diff? What kinda miles you have? It may be due?

Anyhow - this is the thread/post I saw that in, and while it is for the 8 speed trans - it may still be of use to read over the thread. Having a better understanding of trans maintenance is never a bad thing, especially in older, higher mileage cars. If you do learn/find anything as you go along with your trans - please share it here. More knowledge can't hurt!

I would be a bit afraid of adding an any additive to these transmissions. I had my transmission drained and serviced(only about 4 quarts comes out) at the mid to high 80K point. I am at 213K+ miles right now and mine shifts just like when it was new.
I will be purchasing the new trans/filter pan and fluid very soon(work schedules/weather have been issues) to replace and service. Plan on dong some drain and flush cycles prior to replacing the filter pan to get newer fluid up inside the gearbox before replacement.

Just curious - why replace the pan vs. cleaning it out?

That's right - forgot about that. Been away too long - lol.

I have not interacted with this company at all, but they do offer an aftermarket metal transmission pan with a separate (non-integrated) filter, in case anyone is interested.
Edited to add: I guess it's only for the 4.6 liter V-8 models; I forgot that Genesis sedans with other engines use different transmissions...

Second Edit: In an effort to keep this post related to the original thread title, I wouldn't advise pouring in any additives unless you've already tried draining and replacing (not flushing) the fluid and filter/pan assembly. That should at least help, unless you already have permanent transmission damage for whatever reason.
