  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Driving in winter snow and my AEB light went off... Happened to anyone. Kinda frustrating. Is it the snow causing it? Should I just always turn AEB off in snow? How do u turn AEB off permanently? I hate it... It defaults on when car starts... This sensor kinda sucks. And I hate lights flashing at me when I'm perfectly aware of my surroundings. Your help, greatly appreciated...

The radar unit mounted on the front grille does not like to be covered with with snow I found out. Remove the snow or after it melts away, the AEB warning light will go away.

I am finding this out. The sensor was kinda ICE'D over. Was a wet snow. Just SUCKS in my honest opinion. And correct me if I'm wrong but the owners manual says nothing about this flaw in their AEB detection system.

By the way, connected to Blue Link to complain about the issue and the lady connected me to the Genesis department and didn't realize that they had closed for the day. @HYUNDAI - I hope you read this message board and realize that the little things on a 50K car make or break customer reviews.

Last but not least, let a driver have AEB toggled off when the car starts. I know HYUNDAI wants to taught AEB (Have you seen the car ad where they jump out and all the cars stop automatically when the lead car does....) but I as a sensible driver do not want nor need AEB, nor the hazzard sensor flashing at me when AEB is ICE'd over. Should I expect this every snow day here in COLORADO...

As stated in another post by another poster, the AEB system on any manufacture (BMW, Jaguar, MB etc...) does not work when covered in snow. This is also stated in Genesis manual. See below. You can also deactivate it which is what I recommend in those conditions so you don't continue to get the error message. The good part about this is that every time you re-start the car it will be activated so you won't forget to turn it back on later when the conditions have improved. I posted how to turn it off below as well. Hope this helps you.

Just like the frost covering your windshield in the morning allows you not to see out it also must see to function. Cake it with snow/dirt or mud and there is no way it will work. It's not voodoo you know.

Bluelink is a service offered by Hyundai and not especially for you because you paid more. There are real people behind the Bluelink service and just like you who thinks the AEB system is infallible they also make mistakes sometimes.

It's a safety feature and you want it to default to OFF because it snows now and then? That would be like saying you need to turn your air bags on every time you start your car.

Its a safety feature that is not needed. OK, so if you are easily distracted as a driver, sure... But I don't like it...

I cant tell you how many times I have a car in front of me turning right and the AEB wants to go OFF because A) it doesn't think I'm going to slow down in time or B) it doesn't think I'm smart enough to inch my car to the far left portion of the lane as the car in front of me turns into driveway etc...

ALL cars have AIRBAGS and ABS, they are good sensors. AEB is new and still being tweaked. I prefer a finished project. ONE where I can adjust sensitivity. Or just ONE where I can keep it off. AEB to me is similar to lane assistance. That can be kept off...!?

Isn't there a way to turn it off in car settings or a function button on dash? I have the same system in my Mercedes and there is a way to turn it off in it. My 2011 Genesis does not have it so I am not one to know about the 2015.

Two posts up - manual reference from our resident forum car manual searcher, Alwaysforward ;)

I know that there is a method to turn it off... W

The issue is it defaults ON after turning the car off. AND, even if you turn it off, it will still issue a malfunction warning. So you have to drive with a yellow triangle with a exclamation point by your gauges... That's just annoying in my opinion.

The other point I'm making is that the BlueLink staff had me waiting on phone for 20 minutes because they didn't know the Genesis department closed at 3 on Sundays...

It's the little things, the details people...

The issue is that in certain specific situations both airbags and ABS can also be annoying. In this case you're not even mentioning a potential detrimental effect of AEB, just an annoying light. As has been mentioned this is the nature of the technology and is unlikely to be changed anytime in the near future. It is a finished product and it works as intended. Ever read the ABS section in an owners manual? I didn't go back and check the Genesis one, but most outline that ABS has the potential to significantly increase your stopping distance on some surfaces and in some conditions. That doesn't mean it's not finished or not worth having. It's all about probability. AEB is much more likely to prevent or lessen the severity of a crash than to cause or worsen one. Same for ABS, stability control, etc.

I agree entirely. I have had the AEB flash red several times for situations I was well aware of. Annoying? I don't think so. No more so than the blind spot monitoring which I ignore if I am aware of a vehicle there. However, I have had it actually engage the brakes (it is VERY dramatic) once or twice for situations that just presented themselves quickly and it without a doubt helped. it is somewhat invasive but nonetheless effective.

Had my AEB light come on this evening and of course when I checked the front sensor, it was covered with wet snow. Bothersome yes but its a warning. I've had friends with other cars with similar tech have the same issue. Gotta get used to it with all the tech on these cars. At least your being warned that this feature may not be working.
