Air conditioning works intermittently.

So, I just got a 2015 3.8 with about 45,000 miles on it a couple weeks ago. I noticed the first day I had the car the ac was warm. The next day I got into the car the ac was ice cold. I have since noticed that it works fine for 30 minutes after which it will get warm when stopped, and get cold when the car is moving. Then if I let the car sit for a couple hours it gets cold for another 30 minutes. What could be going on? Freezing AC? Bad Condenser fan? Overcharged system?

First thing I would do is check the cabin filter. They are often neglected and restrict air flow.

Given the age and miles, it is possible the charge is low, thus the poor performance at low rpm. If not the filter, get a good AC shop to check it out.

Thanks for the reply! I wouldn't think the charge would be too low because when it works, it's like bitter cold (some of the coldest ac I've felt). It's just that after it running a little it gets hot when stopped and cools down when driving. Could it also possibly be a computer glitch or a fuse?

Yeah, I've been fooled by that before. Great cooling at speed and low/no cooling at idle can indeed be a symptom of low refrigerant level.

My same year and model exhibits this during the hot summer days. I was at stop light the other afternoon and it started feeling stuffy and humid in the car and the air blowing out of vents was cool, but not cold. As soon as I got back up to full driving speeds it went back to being very cold. Mine does it randomly though, sometimes it will do it while driving.

I may have them check levels on my next trip for oil.

I'd check the charge for sure.
