  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

First off I live in the Phoenix AZ area. So it is hot. Has been over 110 for 10 days, so far. My question is, have heard Hyundai has subpar AC systems. Has anyone else experienced this? I have a 2014 Equus Ultimate w/
55k miles. Have had it to the shop 2 times and they have drained and refilled both time with no leaks detected. Works fine while I am driving but sometimes, most of the time, it wont blow as cold as soon as I stop, say for a traffic light. Then take off and blows cold again. To me that would be low coolant, but nope! Anyone else experience this with there Equus? Just curious as if this is the norm or do I need to dig deeper for more answers. I appreciate any input. Be safe everyone!

Coolant goes in your radiator, for engine cooling.
Refrigerant is what goes in your AC for cooling the cabin.
IMHO, Hyundai engine cooling fans are not strong enough (move enough air) and I think that is at least part of the reason that the AC does not cool very well when the car is not moving.

Good point. The OP should check to see if his fan is operating properly. It may not even be on.

I said coolant but meant refrigerant. IMHO?

Generally you will throw a code if any of the electric fans for the condenser/radiator are not operating as expected. I have had problems on other cars at idle and how cold the A/C gets. Always contributed it to compressor RPM. I think also some cars are programmed to cycle the compressor more often as a fuel savings measure while at idle. When driving A/C temps were fine in my other cars. My G70 has been fine other than when I use recirculate mode the car turns that mode off on its own after 3-4 minutes. DFW is plenty hot and I like to be in control of recirculate function and not have the car make decisions for me.

If this is what it is I am ok with it,just wanted to be sure because have never had this situation with Lexus or Toyota and I am a new Hyundai owner. I appreciate everybody's input. Love love love the car regardless.

Yes, the fans in my Lincolns are much stronger too.

I have only had my G70 a few days, but I have noticed that the fans for the A/C is underpowered compared to my old Sonatas. I normally keep the temp on 73, but I have to turn it down to 68 to get sufficient cooling.

The compressor puts out a certain maximum capacity no matter what the temperature is set for. The fan moves a given amount of air at a certain speed no matter the temperature.

What happens when you turn it to 68? Does the fan speed change? What if you take it off AUTO and set the fan to a higher speed? Does it cool better at the 73 setting?

It is possible that fan is not turning fast enough at a given setting. It is also possible the setting in degrees are not accurate. Forget the numerical value and think of it as Hi-Med-Lo and what makes you comfortable. Once you figure that out you can have the dealer make adjustments if needed. Would be good if you can compare it to another G70 to see if it is just yours.

Thanks for the information. I’ll try not using the auto A/C setting and see what happens.

When I keep the AC on auto and lower the temp, the fans do speed up. I know that the fan speed lowers when the car is idling, but I have not before had this problem when the car's thermometer seems to be off, and the car is not maintaining the desired temperature of 73. I will play with it and turn it to manual, and see what happens, and if necessary, bring it to the dealer for adjustments as you suggest. Thanks for your input.
