I just bought my first Hyundai/Genesis, a 2011 3.8l sedan with the Premium & Navigation Package and only 62,600 miles. I guess with all of my excitement, I may have missed the airbag light which I noticed after I paid for the vehicle from a Private Seller.
Plugging my OBD Diagnostic Tool, I found out that the code was B1434 Side Airbag Rear-Passenger Resistance Too Low. I took it to a Hyundai dealership this morning with the information & diagnosis on the code and asked them if they could locate what exactly is wrong as the code can only say so much. All for a low low cost of $124 + shop supplies (?) = $136.00
They came back stating that I need to replace my entire rear passenger airbag and the part costs $668.03 plus 2.5 hours of labor at $124 an hour. I asked him what part number needed a replacement and he was shocked that I asked. He said he couldn't give me that information. I asked to speak to his Service Manager as I had a right to know what part I was going to pay for. He said he didn't have permission, so I asked him politely to ask his Service Manager for permission and I'll gladly wait on the phone. He came back right away giving me the part number. It was 95910-3M150, the Rear Airbag Control Module. I looked online and hyundaioemparts.com (part of Delray Hyundai) had it for $467.62 (30% off of retail).
I like to work on my car on mostly electrical stuff, but airbags are something that freaks me out. I wouldn't want it to blow up in my face or cause it to malfunction if I ever need it. So, I would definitely want to get it done at a dealership, but I think I'm going to shop around a few of my neighboring Hyundai dealerships in Florida to see who will knock the same or similar amount off of the part (that they mark up for profit anyways).
Now, I'd like to appeal to my fellow Genesis owners if they have run into this airbag issue before and how it went for them. If you have any suggestions as to what I should do, I'd really appreciate that.
Thank you!
