  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2011 Genesis 3.8 with 260k miles on it. Airbag warning light came on a few months ago and my mechanic ran a diagnostic on it and said it was showing an issue with the clock spring. I replaced the clock spring this past weekend and the light has stayed on. Is this something that needs to be reset? If so, can I do it without a mechanic? This has been the best car I have owned. My son will start driving it in a few months and I don't want to have a faulty airbag system in it.

There is no diagnostic code that separates out the problem to the clockspring. It could also have been the driver's airbag itself, the wiring between the clockspring and the SRS module, or even the SRS module. There are specific tests to make using a multi-meter to determine exactly which part.

good to know. I assume it could be any one of the many airbags in the car. Is there any way to test them? I can get to the drivers steering wheel airbag but all the others are buried.

Surely this "mechanic" pulled a code for the driver's airbag igniter resistance too high?
Otherwise, the clockspring would have been a completely unfounded guess. If no code was pulled yet, you need to do that before throwing more parts at this. Many things besides the airbags themselves can trigger the warning light and disable the system.

You might reach out to Hyundai on this issue. They sent me a letter a few years ago extending my airbag warranty thru the end of 2025. My car was well outside the mileage and my 10 year warranty ends June 2024.
There is another thread on the airbags I believe on page 2-3.
