  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, coupe friends. I need to tap your expertise on removing the alternator pulley. I'm going to be fitting a lightweight pulley on my sedan (yes, I've checked on fitment already). I've installed a crankshaft underdrive pulley on my Elantra in the past so I'm aware of the basics like removing the belt itself using the auto tensioner, but I've never removed an alternator pulley.

How to I remove the alternator pulley on the 3.8? Looking at the DIY for the Unorthodox set I can see the coupe's pulley is held on the same as mine - one big nut around the shaft. Are impact tools a must or can it be removed with hand tools?

Is there a way to manually and safely stop the alternator from turning while I use a breaker bar to remove the large nut? Then vice versa when I need to use my torque wrench to put the new one back on.

Thanks in advance for your help.
