GenX
Getting familiar with the group...
I took my Gen Coupe 2.0T to the drag strip today BONE STOCK!!!
I removed all the AMS prototype parts yesterday and she is back to showroom stock condition. This means EVERYTHING is back in the car including spare tire, jack, tools and even the owners manual. AMS believes in completely testing a car STOCK before trying to improve things. The next time we go to the track, we will try some basic weight reduction and possibly a different wheel / tire combo.
This morning I headed out to Byron Dragway to get some baseline numbers on the car. It turned out to be perfect day for drag racing. Cool, sunny and not that crowded.
I made a total of eight passes all in the low 15s and high 14s with my best ET of 14.924 @ 91.91 mph and a best MPH of 92.42. On the stock tires, I can cut a consistent low 2.1 60ft with very light wheel spin. Harder launches with more wheel spin result in wheel hop and high 2.1 60ft.
The DBW throttle body is HORRIBLE for drag racing. I did everything short of "no lift shifting" and my best time came with regular street style shifting. A quick shift resulted in a delay getting back into power. I sure hope Hyundai gets the throttle issue sorted out.
The clutch held up but I do not see it lasting long with drag racing abuse.
We have video that we need to capture and hopefully Rich can whip something up quick for everyone to see.
