  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Android Auto

So Friday on my way home from work it asked if I wanted to try the new AA and then all I had to do was unplug the phone and plug it back in.

I like how it now seems to start at the screen you last left off on and that when on nav it has the controls for music on the bottom of the screen. Overall though doesn't seem majorly different and hard to believe they took so long to update.

Has anyone gotten the new Android auto update. Apparently it's going to be a big change to the interface. It's starting to roll out, wonder if anyone has any experiences to share with it yet.
Yes! I've been using it for about a week now. You can download the. Apk online and push it onto your phone. After that, clear cache and data in the AA app and force close it. Relaunch the app on the phone (not connected) and turn on the "try the new Android auto" toggle in the settings. It's a much better interface and easier to navigate.

You don't have to sideload the apk, just download the last update from the Playstore, clear cache and data, in the phone go to AA app, settings and turn on "try the new Android Auto.

I tried that and didnt work... i just ended up having to go through the setup again
Did you clear data clear cache, force close and then try? I mean doesn't really matter that or APK work just fine who cares how you got it.

That's correct. In your phone you need to go to settings/apps/Android Auto force stop and clear cache and data. Open Android Auto app in your phone and go to setting/ try new Android Auto.

My understanding is that it is a server side push...just like dark mode.

I've got it on. I'll walk out to the car and try when I drive home.

It's server side. So until Google enables it for you, you can clear data and cache until you're blue in the face and it won't do anything. I've been trying my best to get it to work. Google is so annoying with that crap. Just let me get the upgrade.

Worked fine for me. Matter of fact I used this method earlier this week when I updated my car software. I uninstalled AA and reloaded it, the "try new AA" popped up on the setting screen on my phone.

Looks like it's showing up for me...

...haven't tried it yet, though.

Well finally was pushed through... Initially had a hard time with it - it was only using my phone sirius app instead of the car sirius app and I couldnt figure out how to make it work correctly. So I disabled it for the time being. Will have to sit and figure it out to see if I want to use it or not.

I played with it on a trip to Dallas. I like the new AA better. easier to use and more useful use of the available screen area.

I'm surprised nobody has made a USB dongle to enable wireless AA and CP.
There are some that requires you to use an intermediary app to connect.
The phone does not need to know what HU it is connecting to afaik. It's only whether the HU is capable of wireless which probably means some extra security protocols and handshakes. Can't see why it can't be solved unless it is licensing that Apple or Google doesn't want to allow!

It also has to have a higher data transfer rate than Bluetooth. It essentially needs a wi-fi connection. If a dongle can do that at reasonable price I imagine it would be rather popular.

Yeah a dongle that can do WiFi Direct. All phones can do that already. I suspect a licensing issue.
